Welcome to Questionist

If you hang out in Geeks Who Drink’s company Slack, it won’t be long before you hear/see our internal mantra: “Good trivia is for everyone.”

It’s a feel-good thing to say, yes. But it’s also a fundamental truth that we’ve learned from years of experience: Regardless of background, all human beings all have a hunger for knowledge. It’s literally what makes us human! And Questionist is the purest way yet that we’ve expressed that fact.

Hi, I’m Christopher. I’m chief editor of Questionist, and ghost writer of a bunch of the articles. My other job is running GWD, which, if you don’t know, is a pub quiz company, and also our parent (hi, quizzers!). The marketing team would also like me to say that I’m a six-time Jeopardy! champion (btw, we’ll be covering that show every weekend).

From that brief bio, you could guess that I’m an absolute glutton for knowledge, and you’d be right. I’m the sort who has a hard time getting through a book, because nearly every paragraph introduces me to some new concept that requires an immediate trip to Britannica or Wikipedia for help understanding it. Then, understanding the concept, I become friends with it. It influences the way I think about other things. I connect it to my own experience, turn it into jokes, bug my loved ones with it. And then it’s on to the next paragraph, and the next cycle.

As GWD’s editor for more than a decade, I built a whole team of people cut from the same cloth. As Questionist editor, I’m doing it again now.

As we trivia folk know all too well, the news cycle is a target-rich environment for the concept-hungry, and so that’s one of our aims: To be a friendly, funny explainer for as much of what’s happening in the headlines as we possibly can. Not useful, necessarily, but dang interesting anyhow. Take our knowledge! Connect it to your own experience! Turn it into jokes! Bug your loved ones with it!

Our other main purpose is to connect you to other lovers of knowledge-based entertainment – not just in the (under construction) comment section, which we hope you’ll use plenty, but also by being a one-stop shop for information on other places where you can get your trivia freak on. If we’re doing our job right, you’ll bookmark us because you trust that we’ll always have the latest on the new quiz show, mobile app, national tournament, crossword book, etc. We care about these things, and we want to know about them. Why wouldn’t we share that with you?

In doing this, we hope to be a great advocate for the concept of knowledge-based entertainment as an industry. Naturally, we’ll cover some of GWD’s pub-quiz competitors – starting this week, in fact. This is a natural extension of our mission: The hunger for knowledge is self-perpetuating. We don’t know anyone who wants to tease their brains exactly once a week; every rabbit hole leads to another rabbit hole.

In fact, “rabbit hole” is a misnomer, right? It’s called a warren, y’all.

So to recap: This is a website full of good trivia. Our audience is everyone. And one last thing: If you know of something in the trivia world that you think needs covering, feel free to hit us at tips@questionist.com. We’ll be waiting!

A music round where quizzers must answer 2 of X bands who wrote/performed a song of the same name that was NOT a cover.

    EG: “Jolene” (Dolly Parton, Cake),

  2. Kyle Ruszkowski says:

A quiz round all about bugs! Forget about charismatic megafauna, let’s scrape our brains for some hidden insect knowledge.

  3. Alex says:

A round on flight attendants! We do more than serve Diet Coke and ginger ale! Could make for a good movie round. 🙂

  4. Fernando says:

    A round on famous cheaters.
