The Geek Elite: A 20th Anniversary Quiz Celebration

Way back in 2005, an ambitious geek named John Dicker decided to revolutionize the world of pub quiz forever. 

It’s hard to imagine a world without today’s vast options for trivia, but back then, there wasn’t much of a trivia industry to shake up. It was about building one—establishing a higher standard than the plain, old “question-song format” and point-blank facts you either knew or didn’t. It was about creating a pastime that waged war on banality, cliches, and boredom.

A year later, Geeks Who Drink was born.

We’ve come a long way over the last two decades—from a handful of quizzes in the heart of Denver to more than 800 weekly games across the country. We’ve built a massive network of incredible quizmasters to host events. We have a crack team of writers who put out more fresh quiz content than the brains behind Jeopardy! (No shade to America’s Favorite Quiz Show®, of course. Now we’re hosting that, too.) And it’s all run by a dedicated team of eccentric professionals who keep Geeks Who Drink operating in style. 

Twenty years of thinking and drinking calls for a special celebration. And we want you to be a part of it.

On Saturday, May 2nd, we’re going back to our roots in the Denver area with a very special event—The Geek Elite: A 20th Anniversary Quiz, hosted at Max Taps Co. Highlands Ranch. We’ve let our editorial team off the leash to create zanier rounds, more interesting questions, and content that really drives home our company motto of, “Always harebrained, never half-assed.” It’s all to celebrate our history, spotlight our longtime quizmasters, and give YOU the chance to win some cash.

Since we’re the ones who ask the questions around here, we’ll ask a few on your behalf in advance:

• Want in on the action? Team tickets are now on sale in our shop! That will reserve your spot for up to six players on your team—so start pulling together your smartest friends for a crack team of nerds.
  
• Miss out on tickets? Never fear, busy bees. Teams may still walk up and pay-to-play the day of the event, weather and seating permitted. All added funds will go directly toward the cash prizes awarded during the quiz.
  
• Can’t make it to Denver? This isn’t the only elite celebration we have up our sleeves. Keep an eye on our website and newsletter for more information about events to come later this year.

We know there are Geeks spread far and wide, still thinking and drinking, remembering their Geek Bowls fondly and chatting with the friends they made of fellow players, hosts, and staff. We hope this gives you the perfect opportunity to reconnect with the community, lift a glass of whatever you’d like, and geek out.
