Geeks Who Drink's Denver Celebration

This year, Geeks Who Drink is celebrating our 20th anniversary as a company. We’ve grown from a handful of quizzes in the heart of Denver to more than 800 weekly events across the country. We’ve built a massive network of incredible quizmasters to host events. We have a crack team of writers who put out more fresh quiz content than the brains behind Jeopardy! (No shade to America’s Favorite Quiz Show®, of course. Now we’re hosting that, too.) And it’s all run by our team of eccentric professionals dedicated to providing the best entertainment to our client network.

Since Denver is our hometown, we kicked off our birthday celebrations with an elite event to celebrate the area, our longtime hosts, and our longtime partners.

We partner with more than 60 venues in the Greater Denver Area. Some have been quizzing with us for nearly as long as we’ve been in business, like The Irish Rover, which has hosted Geeks Who Drink Classic Trivia for 19 years, and just launched a second weekly game night. Others are just starting, like the new Buffalo Wild Wings locations now hosting Jeopardy! Bar League. All of them help our vast player network grow and thrive.For our anniversary event, we gathered at Max Taps Co. in Highland Ranch, where we’ve been quizzing for over a decade. Max Taps Co. hadn’t even been born yet when Geeks was first making a name in the pub quiz industry. Even so, it’s a place that has had Geeks Who Drink in its DNA since they first opened their doors, always hosted by veteran quizmaster Jeff Metius.

“My first venue was Living the Dream (LTD) Brewing, where I met Dave G, the marketing manager there,” says Jeff. “Dave was about to open his own bar, so the night he broke it to me that LTD was [ending trivia], he also told me to let my quizzers know that we would move over [to the new venue] same day of the week, same time slot, just down the road.”

Now Max Taps Co. is all grown up, with two locations in Greater Denver—both of which offer Geeks Who Drink pub quiz during the week, and a theme quiz once a month.

And on the Saturday of our Geek Elite event, we couldn’t have asked for a better spot (or better weather) to host our little quiz…though to call it “little” would be an insult to our mighty editorial team, who went above and beyond to develop a quiz that celebrates Denver’s rich history—from a round all about other Denver-founded companies to an absolutely inspired visual round called Blucifer’s Clucifers.

It was quite the crew who showed up for the show. Quizmasters throughout the company’s history joined us—some to help host the quiz and some just to play along—and where quizmasters go, their loyal teams and quizzers shall follow. We had teams drive in from all over Colorado to get in on the fun, see their favorite quizmasters, and win some major prizes.

By the end of the night, we’d awarded a total of $1,000 in cash prizes and more than half a dozen boxes of classic Geeks Who Drink merchandise, relics that haven’t been seen in years. Not to mention, our hungry, hungry hosts and quizzers completely bought out the food truck’s supplies and put a significant dent in the on-tap selection behind the bar. After all, we picked the name Geeks Who Drink for a reason.
