Mission Statement:
The Summer Marine Mammal Intensive Learning Experiences (SMMILE) delivers place-based educational programs regarding marine mammal science and conservation. We promote environmental stewardship, foster passion for marine science, and empower the next generation of ocean ambassadors through immersive, hands-on learning experiences. Our programs prioritize inclusivity for students from historically marginalized communities.
The Money is Going Towards: funding the next generation of marine mammal scientists and ocean ambassadors. SMMILE brings together students and professionals across Hawaiʻi to share manaʻo (knowledge) and practice kuleana (responsibility) of the ʻaina and kai, focusing on whales, dolphins, and the Hawaiian monk seal.
