So Starbucks Has a Unicorn Frappuccino.Cap'n Brendan
This is a thing, I guess. Since we’re still pretty new to each other, I don’t think it’s come up before that I used to work at Starbucks for a decade. Nearly five years as a barista, then a little over five years in the corporate office. That was a while ago now (yes, I’m old), and I infrequently visit because why stand in line for 15 minutes to pay $3 for a cup of black coffee, but nevertheless it was a significant enough chunk of my life that I still take notice when the company does something interesting. And this latest Unicorn Frappuccino is definitely interesting.
In the name of interesting, your intrepid quizmaster ventured to the Starbucks in his lobby building and decided to try one out. Does this make me a food blogger? I’m not sure how I feel about that. For one thing I’m a terrible photographer. But here we go!
To start, it looks like something a 6-year-old girl hopped up on sugar invented after binge watching My Little Pony for a week. The colors are basically cotton candy pink and blue, and the whipped cream is topped with a sparkly dusting of sour powder like the ungodly offspring of pixy stix and warheads. Remember warheads? That tart, mouth-puckering sourness is so very here. The taste itself… It’s pretty blah. Nothing too remarkable, mostly just a faint mango flavor until you get a little of that sour powder mixed in, and then that’s all you can taste for a few minutes.
On the whole, I wouldn’t say this is anything you need to go out of your way to try, or that you’ll be disappointed if you miss it. Not like our quiz, which is always amazing and you should never miss! Just ask last night’s winners: Bye Bye O’Reilly, Sex House, and (in next-to-last place) 3 Blind Mice. Quiz is even better when you win a prize!
That’s it for me this week. I’m going to go throw up a rainbow and nurse my brainfreeze. See you next Wednesday!
