All of My High School Book Reports Were About Long Novels I Didn't ReadJared
I didn't talk about this at quiz, because quiz is supposed to be a fun event, and it is, and I didn't want to take that away from anyone, even myself. I lost a former student in The Ghostship Fire in Oakland on Friday night. She was a brilliant, sweet kid who had her life taken away way too soon. She was in my Pre-Calc class when she was a sophomore and my AP Stat class when she was a senior. She was an artsy, indie kid who loved music, and people loved her. She was popular without being stuck up. Anyway, I just felt I had to get that out somewhere, and here seems to be a good place. I was actually interviewed by KRON 4 News today at work, so watch it tonight at 5 and 6. If you want. And you're reading this today before 5 or 6.
But anyway, on with the quiz. 10 teams stepped in to the ring, and well, 10 teams came out of it but in ten (well, there were a couple ties, so eight?) different places. Round 1 was about Isaac Newton (not Cam's brother) and Round 2 was more music I don't listen to. But some of you guys did and jokered and scored well! Round 3 was a Raise the Bar round about lawyery stuff. Round 4 was about people who don't like Xmas (For the record, my Xmas tree has a stormtrooper helmet in lieu of an angel on top) and Round 5 was about fictional doctors. Round 6 was absolutely brilliant. And seriously, like this blog title, I don't think I read a single book in high school that I was supposed to, but I did write shitty book reports about them. Round 7 was popular TV shows and Round 8 was pretty damn tough. Like it tends to be.
So yeah, we had Big MK come in 8th, which happens when you show up in time for the last half of Round 2. Taking Back Tuesday was 7th, The Ancient Mariners tied with The Quizzing Quintuplets for 5th, and Book Hockey tied MENSA Rejects for 3rd. 2nd went to Taming of the Brew and 1st went to Toit Like Toiger who ended up being disqualified for rotating in a 7th person. Shame on you guys...at least two of you knew better. Dammit. So I apologize to anyone who should have placed who didn't, and if you should have had a gift card and didn't win won, I'm more than happy to buy you a beer at some point. Just say, hey, buy me a damn beer and it's yours. That is if you should have won. You know who you are.
So yeah, lots of fun last night at The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company which I really did need. Thanks to all of you for coming out, and I'll see you next Tuesday and every Tuesday for Geeks Who Drink!
Jared is most definitely a geek who drinks. In addition to hosting the Pub Quiz at HMB Brewing Company, he hosts The Rocky Horror Picture Show in San Francisco. Also, there's probably a day job somewhere.
