I'm Writing This Before Midnight Because Tomorrow Is My AnniversaryJared
I never write these things this late (It's Tuesday night at almost 11:30), but tomorrow is my fifteen year wedding anniversary, so I feel like I should get this done before that. And I will. Fifteen years is a very long time, but my wife is pretty great, so it's kind of flown by. If you're reading this and ever get married, marry your best friend. It's seriously the way to go. Tomorrow my wife and I are driving to Monterey to hang out on Cannery Row, maybe go to the aquarium, maybe get a bit drunk, and definitely to have fun!
But before that happens, let's talk about Geeks Who Drink at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. We had a crazy busy night at The BrewCo with 17 teams competing. Seventeen! That's so much it's a Winger song. And that should tell you how loopy I am from being up this late if I'm writing about Winger. Anyway, we had some new formats this week. Round 2 was a lot of fun with the question followed by the song. And if you've ever seen me on a Saturday night, we play YMCA right before Rocky Horror starts, so that was a bit surreal having Time Warp back to back with The Village People. Round 1 was current events, round 3 was JFK, round 4 was not quite sports, and round 5 had almost all perfect scores. Round 6 was Sci-fi meets religion and round 7 was the easiest to grade. Ever. Round 8 was tough, but some of you did pretty damn well.
We had 17 teams with some regulars, some newbies, some people who were there anyway, so what the hell, let's play along, but everyone had some fun! Book Hockey and Taking Back Tuesday tied for 8th, and best team name of the night, Without Immigration, Trump Would Have No Wives took 7th. 6th went to Soleil and 5th went to Bird is the Word. There was a tie for 3rd with Smarty Pints who lost the tiebreaker to MENSA Rejects. And there was a tie for 1st with Taming of the Brew who lost the tiebreaker to Ancient Mariners.
So yeah, done before midnight, and ready for my anniversary! Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone and I'll see you Tuesday at The BrewCo!
Jared is most definitely a geek who drinks. In addition to hosting a pub quiz, you're likely to find him in a mosh pit at a punk rock or thrash metal show. He collects records and comic books and types about himself in the 3rd person. His greatest trivia accomplishment is he once won a trip to London on a game show that he wasn't a contestant on. His greatest drinking achievement is the 30 Equis Challenge. He's smart, funny, and good looking. So, naturally, he's taken. By his wife of over 15 years. Play his quiz every Tuesday in HMB!
