The Girl With the Pearl NecklaceJared
Well, what can I say. It's been a week, that's for sure. Two more days at the day job and I'm off for two weeks. And with Xmas being the first weekend of my vacation, I've got the full two weeks to relax, drink beer, and do pub quizzes. Also, tomorrow night I'm going to be working in San Francisco as Val Kilmer's bodyguard. True story.
Anyway, Geeks Who Drink happened last night at The Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, and a great time was had by all. Thirteen teams competed, meaning we didn't slow down for the holidays at all. It was a tough quiz last night, with no teams scoring over 70 points. Round 1 was current events and Round 2 was a tribute to some of the greats we lost in 2016. It didn't have Mickey Fitz from The Business, who was one of my favorite singers that passed away this year, but nobody would have known him anyway. So it would have been a lot like Leonard Cohen. Zing! Round 3 was tough even as a multiple choice round, but it did finally give me a reason to play that god awful Deep Blue Something song that we've been trying to forget since the 90's. Round 4 was service animals and elves, and Round 5 was people from Law and Order. I was glad to see I wasn't the only one who thought Jennifer Garner looked like Juliette Lewis. Round 6 was Dutch painters. Nobody knew Jan Steen, which is pronounced Yon, not like the jerk Brady kid. Round 7 was Xmas Musak, and Round 8 was really fucking hard even by Round 8 standards. Maybe your Xmas present fo rnext week will be an easier quiz, but we'll see.
Scores were all over the place with Book Hockey having to split into two teams giving them 3rd and The Real Book Hockey a tie for 6th with the MENSA Rejects. 5th place went to Taming of the Brew, who had a rough Round 8, and Smarty Pints came in 4th. 2nd place went to Cheeses of Nazareth, and that left 1st place for Ancient Mariners!
See you next week for the last pub quiz of 2016! And then see you every Tuesday through 2017 and beyond!
Jared is most definitely a geek who drinks. In addition to hosting the Pub Quiz at HMB Brewing Company, he hosts The Rocky Horror Picture Show in San Francisco. Also, there's probably a day job somewhere.
