One More Year! One More Year!
Ben

Hello you beautiful people. This week marked the one year anniversary of quizzing at The Pub & The People! The Pub graciously upgraded both of the single pint bonus question prizes to a round of shots and a round of drafts, respectively, to mark the occasion, and we all laughed, and cried, and reminisced of the good times we shared together, like any night where those DAMN AGE OF CONSENTERS DIDN'T WIN. YOU GUYS ARE TOO GOOD, STOP IT. They won again tonight, fittingly, eking out a narrow victory in the final round, away from the hands of James and the Giant Orb, who had first place the entire game, up until that point. Age of Consent

I Always Feel Like, Somebody's Watching Me!
gabriel

And really, really there ain't no privacy.  Why yes, I did just start with a joke about 80s one-hit-wonder Rockwell.  Go ahead, feel free to call me old. Thanks Ben, for letting me sub for you this fine Monday evening, but man did I always feel like a goose was walking over my grave, as the quizzers were literally all behind or on the side of me.  Nothing to make you paranoid like a pile of people you can't really turn around to look at staring at the back of your head.  I'm pretty surprised I didn't end up with a "kick me" note at the end of the night! In all seriousness, it was a really great time and you all and the bar staff were great to me and

Versus Game Six
Ben

Ahoy!   It had been a while since the last quiz that was this difficult. This is actually the most difficult I can recall, and the scores reflect it!   Team Venture managed to win it all again for the second week in a row!   Have we seen the last of those dastardly Age of Consenters?   I know a lot of hungry teams that are hoping so.   This week also saw the return of Trash Pandas: The Legend of Curly's Gold. They held onto second most of the game, and were consistently answering

Go Team Venture!
Ben

Hey! I like to think the very real-seeming thread of monstrous amounts of rain is what kept the number of teams to a measly eight. It was a bizzare yellow color outside for a few rounds, and it was definitely more doom and gloomy than it needed to be, considering there wasn't more than a sprinkling of rain when everything was said and done. Now that I've gotten my normal weather update out of the way, and how it pertains to team attendance, I can jump into the meat of things. Team Venture won this week! They almost always fare well, but, until this week, had never broken through to first place, but they did it this week. I can't really say that I root

TTSSSHHHHTTTT
Ben

Hello quizzers! A little lower attendance than usual, this past Monday, but I'm not complaining. That just means I can spend less time grading, and more time making fun of awful answers! I try to make it laugh-with instead of a laugh-at insults, especially since I have my easily attacked back facing about 90% of the pub patrons. Age of Consent seemed to be without their numero uno, and saw it fit to go by "Jay of Consent" instead, and also saw fit not to place. This left the door wide open for my favorite named team of the night, Le Pen 15 Club to win by a commanding six points over the always plucky Team Venture. Last weeks

The Pub & The Planned Parenthood
Ben

Hello folks! Thanks to all who participated in this week's special edition quiz, and an even greater thanks to those who donated to our local Metro Washington Planned Parenthood! If you weren't there or aren't aware, this week's quiz was a "Quiz for a Cause", in which Planned Parenthood was the cause! We had some friends from our local Planned Parenthood chapter on hand, talking about what they do, and taking donations that go directly to said local chapter. Keeping it local! Participants were generally very generous, which was lovely to witness. I constantly get the feeling that it is a very progressively thinking crowd that attends the Monday night quiz, and this

Too Damn Sultry
Ben

Hello folks! Another humdinger of a quiz last night, whatever that means. Not as hairline close of a race as we've seen in recent weeks, but some lead changes along the way. That first audio round certainly tore many teams to shreds, although not Age of Consent, who only missed three, and wisely executed their joker on it (since they missed four on the final round.) Actually, looking at it again, there was only about five points separating the top three teams, which is still pretty dang close. Hairlines be damned. The normal Team Venture group had more than six people, so they had to split into two groups, the second one being very

...Despite what Big Sodium Phosphate Wants You To Think
Ben

Greetings! I always like seeing regulars take first or second for the first time, which happened tonight when Crystal Methodists stole second place from the jaws of Age of Consent. Not to be outdone, however, were team Topical Pun, who are consistently excellent. Regular champs Age of Consent ended up two points short of second place, with Sweet Sassy Molassy one point behind them. Sweet Sassy Molassy was my favorite name to say out loud, but I have to give best name to Filibuster Rhymes. The usually solid Team Venture

Mind the Gap
Ben

Greetings! After weeks of close games, we finally had a respectable gap between first and second place, with returning champions Age of Consent outscoring second placers Team Venture by six points. The three point gap Team Venture had over Topical Pun is also respectable, and satisfyingly (reverse?) exponential. The entire difference came from that first audio round, where Age of Consent doubled their impressive 15 point round (no other team scored more than 13), compared to Team Venture's 12 point performance. Both teams had fairly identical performances outside of that round.

Happy Birthday Elton John
Ben

Greetings! Weather gets better, moods get better, quizzes get better. The theme of quizzes in 2017 seems to be damn close games. Another squeaker, with team Ben Likes to Refer to Himself in the Third Person taking first place by ONE point, leading regular placers Hobo Bidet in second, who led the usual champion Age of Consent by a mere TWO points. Age of Consent didn't qualify for a placement prize, but did win the final bonus round of shots for their efforts. With the change of season has come a change of menu, and the new goat cheese mac and cheese replacing the pumpkin mac was a stroke of genius. So dang good, even

Rock! Paper! Scissors! SHIT!
Ben

Howdy! Monday's quiz was a dramatic one, as Trash Pandas 4: In Space made their glorious return and barely snuck away with the one point win. Even more dramatic, was the second place tie between Napoleon Snowy Fort and Team Venture. The tie breaking rock, paper, scissor bout ended with Team Venture scissoring (ew) the $15 gift certificate away from Napoleon Snowy Fort after two rock standoff rounds. No one likes to lose that way, but Napoleon Snowy Fort have enjoyed more victories than Team Venture, so I shall shed no tears for them. I was expecting

The Peel Sessions
Ben

Greetings! Another week, another packed bar. I think quiz participants are getting more and more disciplined every week. I find myself competing with noise much less these days, which is AWESOME! Noise has always been the number one complaint I hear from people, besides not winning enough bonus questions.  Any way, we had another quiz where Age of Consent did not win, which, while it is still rare, has happened two or three times in the last month or so. For those just tuning in, that is not normal, but is largely okay with most people. It's lonely at the top.   Gotta give AoC credit though, as they "lost" by only one point, despite

Who the Hell Watches the People's Choice Awards?
Ben

Good evening quiz blog readers,   Many people expressed their displeasure with a few of tonight's rounds, namely the People's Choice Award questions and the Swedish Chef audio round. I'd have to agree with the reaction to the People's Choice Award category. I was not even aware they had happened this year.   That's no excuse for losing, though. It's certainly in the realm of pop culture. I was proud to see at least three teams completely ace the art visual round. Way to go folks!   It was a close race for the number one spot, but Trash Pandas: Kalabar's Revenge manage to ace the final

Warmer Still
Ben

Greetings once again quiz blog readers, This week saw another trainee come and go, in Chris, a soon to be alternate quiz sub. For his first time, he rocked it. Kudos Chris. While trainees being trained at my bar is nothing out of the ordinary lately, Age of Consent not taking first place was. Napoleon Boner Party edged them out for the number one spot, and actually had them beat for a good few rounds. Some weird categories tonight definitely had a hand in shaking things up, like Ellen Page movies. It's been unseasonably warm this week, and the especially populated bike rack was a testament to that fact. Even if it

Blog powers: activate. Good evening beautifuls. Here's what is not surprising: Age of Consent won. Not expected or surprising: Serenity Now took second place. Somewhat expected: Team Venture took third. Very expected: Few people are aware of the existence of Howard the Duck, and even fewer people have actually seen it. Lots of friendly newbies this quiz, and a few people who left before the quiz, promising to make it back sometime to actually participate. Something about this bar attracts nice people. I like that. Please continue coming to The Pub & The People, you nice people. Is it

The Nub & the Peep Hole
Ben

Greetings quiz blog reader people. Well the weather sure improved, but the attendance did not, surprisingly. I'll go ahead and chalk that up to the Superb Owl hangover effect. Patriots win, everyone else loses. Speaking of dominating forces doing what they do best and upsetting a lot of people, this was yet another quiz that was won out by Age of Consent. They pulled ahead in the final round, after getting 15 compared to the 12 that second place team (and dangerous newcomers) The Nub and the Peep Hole achieved, putting Age of Consent up by 2 points to win it all. Tonight also featured another trainee by the name of
