Quiz Schedule
Thursday nights at the Canyon's Crown Restaurant and Pub, Tucson, AZ. Wednesday nights at the Auld Dubliner, Tucson, AZ.
Tom (Major Tom)

My name is Tom.  I got into this gig by kicking everyone's ass at the Quiz at Club Congress on a weekly basis until they pretty much had to give me a job.  Now I do 2 clubs in Tucson, and you should be at both of them.  Besides doing this, I play in a ska-punk band called Troy's Bucket, and I have a job teaching 7th grade social studies.  I'm a huge metal and punk fan, but I also dig a lot of other stuff.  Halloween is my Christmas.  A lot of that has to do with my birthday, December 24th, being totally ignored thanks to Christmas.  I left the sinking ship that is Detroit, but I still love the Red Wings.  That's a hockey team.  Hockey is the greatest sport in the world.  I am single, so feel free to line up at the QM's table to meet me.  I drink Guinness, so feel free to send one my way.  I still won't give you any extra points.

Last week, I assigned homework.  I said you must all find 2 new people and bring them to Quiz.  Well, there were a lot of new faces last night, but I think I may not have been clear.  See, you were supposed to bring them in addition to your normal teammates.  You weren’t supposed to replace your regular teammates.  Oh, well.  I’m giving you the same assignment this week, except this time, hopefully we’re all clear on the instructions.

What’s up with all the people sitting in the bar, answering all the questions, or bragging to me about how they knew all the answers, but then not actually PLAYING THE QUIZ?!?  During the Round 7 movie clip from The Princess Bride, there was a girl at the bar actually saying all the lines along with the movie clip.  “You should play with us, “ I says to her.  “No thanks.  I wouldn’t be very good at it, “ she says.  Then she continues to try to tell me the answers to all the questions.  Argh!

Last night had some interesting rounds.  The pirate karaoke for Round 2 was a huge hit.  Hilarious stuff.  The sooner or later round caused more than a few teams to collapse into infighting, however.  Everyone was sure they knew best.  These things happen.  Next time, strategies will be figured out in advance.  Or not.

There were also some good unsolicited additions to some answer sheets.  Sans Pants Dance Party drew me a picture of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.  Morose Moriarty added a diagram of the lipid bilayer to their Round 5 on parts of the cell.  Jagine made very certain that I knew they had trademarked and copyrighted their team name.  And The Recently Unemployed assured me that they would get better at Quiz now that they had no jobs.

So, what did we learn last night?

-          Miracle Max’s wife is not named Miracle Gro.  Her name is Mrs. Max, obviously.

-          Harpo Marx, once thought long dead, currently has a segment on Yo Gabba Gabba.

-          Sherlock Holmes was not the President of the U.S.  in Dr. Strangelove.

-          The actual President of the U.S. in that movie was Baberaham Lincoln.

-          Matthew Perry plays a taxidermist in his new sitcom.

OK, folks, remember your homework for this week.  In your spare time, go to the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/GeeksWhoDrinkPubQuizAtAuldDublinerTucson and ‘like’ us, etc.  Cheers!
