First time in a month there was no event downtown to hinder my parking experience, so it started out as a win. As a matter of fact, the whole quiz experience was a win…it was after the quiz that my night started to go south. I just really need to stop wandering downtown after the quiz and drinking cheap crappy beer. I don’t drink crappy beer during my quizzes, I should stop drinking it after them :(
As for the quiz itself, though, we had a good time. We started out with amputation questions, including one about Captain Jack Harkness and The Doctor’s hand. I was considering skipping Dragon Con this year, but it seems that John Barrowman is going to be there, so I will have to be there as well, because he is awesome. Then we got to have the first mashup round I have done. Funny, because I played a lot of mashups a couple weeks back, but not as part of the quiz.
We then got to guess if headlines were from Fox News or The Onion, and got a fun Round 4 that put Betty White and Urkel in the same question. Our visual round had wedding pictures, from such successful wedding movies like The Graduate, Beetlejuice, and The Princess Bride. We finished up with Airplane movies, and a final round that asked us about the movie Bad Girls.
In the end, Don’t You Hate Pants came out victorious, beating Baby Got Back Boobs by 2 points, but my favorite name of the night (and possibly my favorite team of the night) was 3 Hotties and a Hold Up. This team was awesome, because they came here from Indiana, and made this quiz part of their travel itinerary. They didn’t win, but they were a lot of fun…the same can’t be said about the Australian assholes who shouted out the FIRST answer in the game, right after I read the rules. Well, I guess that’s what you get from a country started by convicts.
But back to the fun team…we need to get a GWD presence in the Midwest. We seem to have a bit of one, but when people have to travel to another state to get a good quiz (I had a team from KY a few weeks ago, so this isn’t an isolated incident) then there is a problem. Not that I mind being the ambassador for quizdom, considering Nashville does get a lot of tourism, it’s just I feel bad when people don’t have a local GWD quiz they can call their own.
So, this is a call to anyone who doesn’t have a local quiz, or has a friend that doesn’t. Get your favorite watering holes to jump on the Geeks Who Drink bandwagon!
