I have been on stage in front of an audience in one way or another for just over 26 years. Started off by trying out for a children's musical theatre company when I was 13 (mainly because I wanted to get into the pants of the girl who told me I had a nice voice and should try out). That led to many underwhelming roles in high school drama and then NOTHING for about 6 years.

Then, as luck would have it, I was driving around looking for my next ho-hum job when I heard an advertisement on the radio for an improv comedy show, ComedySportz. I took a friend of mine for her birthday, volunteered for one of the games and got a few laughs; more importantly, a resurgence for that heroine-like need of strangers being impacted by something I did on stage. I auditioned the following day and was invited to join the very next week...and I have not looked back.

Nowadays I pay the bills as a technical writer for a local startup software company and perform / write comedy whenever I get a chance. If I have one professional goal it is to invent a new font called "Sarcastica". I can be seen at ComedySportz, occasionally performing at The Hideout Theatre and various other improv venues as well as on-mic and behind the scenes with Master Pancake Theater.

My wife and I have been married since 1999. I met her while karaoke DJ'ing at the Common Interest. She was the manager so I married her for job security. We have two amazing sons who are catching on to my antics WAYYY too soon.

My life can be hectic at times but I wouldn't change a thing!

"Hey Dav, we want you to host a quiz show that is cleverly written, hilarious at times, encouraged by booze, and puts you on a microphone. What do ya say?"

Shit yeah!

Last night, despite the rules that “the man” put down, Kim came back to the quiz! I missed her so much and it was great having her there with me again! FIGHT THE POWER!

Before any GWD higher-up that reads this gets their panties in a wad, Kim was at the bar as a quizzling. It was kind of weird though. It was almost like a first date if that date went a little like this:

He looked longingly into her eyes as she did into his. She softly brushed the hair from her cheek, a move that had always brought warm feelings to his heart. Her cheeks were so vibrant, slightly pink and full of life. He began to feel perspiration build up on his upper lip. She started talking but her mouth was obscured by the bullet-proof plastic divider. “You have to pick up the phone so I can hear you!” he yelled desperately.

Yeah, there was a palpable difference in having her in the crowd as opposed to next to me on the couch. But she was there and stopped by to give me a kiss every once in a while and wrote sweet notes to me on her team’s answer sheets. Given the alternative, I could not have been happier.

Well operation 20 teams is heading in the right direction but just not fast enough. We had an increase from last week to 14 teams. Six more teams is all we need and then we are required to sustain that attendance level for 3 consecutive weeks. We can do it! Just bring some friends next week and you will see just how easy it is.

Here is a recap of what Lady Quiz brought to the party:

Round 1 was a little fuzzy, made us giggle a lot and smelled like cookies covered in pepper. Round two came at just the right time. Speaking of Time, Kim being the consummate Prince and all things Prince-related fan knew in her heart of hearts that “Jungle Fever” was performed by The Time. A little post-quiz research proved her right. The name of the band is NOT Morris Day and the Time. It is just The Time. What can I say other than ooops! Oh and all scores are final so there is nothing you can do about it <sticks out tongue>. Round three took you on a shopping spree, round four had you use some pretty intelligent words and then kill all those brain cells on round 5. Next came round 6’s nostalgia followed by some Olympic spirit. Round 8 was random.

We had some winners too. The Randy Travesties won the pitcher of beer for best team name and NOTHING else. Our top two teams set the pace early on in a pack of teams that broke out from the rest with a 10 point margin. Taking second place was the always formidable Who Hasn't Felt the Need to be Naked in Dallas. Returning the Nomad one more time and taking the top honor was the table in the front corner, Aggro Munchkins. I am sure their team name is hilarious in their circle. One thing for sure is they can certainly quiz!

That does it for this week. I am going to be at Nomad next Tuesday August 14th celebrating my 40th birthday with friends. You are all welcome to join in what promises to be a memorable experience for everyone but me. You see I will be getting my brain moistened by libation after libation to the point where I will probably black out and not remember anything…I’ll be shitfaced. I will be back on Thurday though for another fun-filled installment of everybody’s favorite play-at-bar game Geeks Who Drink. Join me and bring a friend!

Until then…
