I'm Houston's only English quizmaster and a beloved local celebrity. I came to the USA to steal quizmaster jobs from honest, hard-working Americans. Mission Accomplished.

Currently, you can find me running the Geeks Who Drink quiz on Thursday at the Maple eaf Pub You may also remember me from previous hosting stints at the Ashford Arms and Little Woodrow's Midtown. If you see me around Houston, please ask me for an autograph or try and get a picture taken with me.

Well, to put it mildly, it's been one hell of a strange, sad, chaotic week. Thanks for coming out to the Maple Leaf Pub this Thursday, hopefully we all had a bit of fun. I know I did.

This week's winners were Keep Calm and Drink Beer with 85 points, followed by The Pink Killers with 75 points. CNN Confirmed These Answers get nothing for being third place with 71 points, but hopefully they can take some comfort in the fact that they had the best team name of the night.

Anyway, those guys may have gotten the "most" answers "correct", but what does that mean? Sure, the things they "answered" were for the most part "true and accurate" but isn't one's own interpretation of the truth just as valid? That's why this quiz we're celebrating Best Worst Answers!!!!

Round 1

Q: The star of the Matrix threads rope through a chain

A: Hugo Weaving (this answer actually makes a lot of sense and I do applaud those who put it, but I needed Keanu Reeves for maximum accuracy).

Round 2

Q: Name the title and artist of this song

A: "We are a horrible band that sucks" by Incubus

Round 3

- no funny wrong answers, but one team wrote all eight answers on one line of the answer sheet, which shows a stunning lack of thinking and is amusing in and of itself.

Round 4

Q: The hulled grains of various cereals are known by what G-word?

A: Grundles

Round 5

- disqualified because everyone playing the quiz is an uber-nerd and recognized all of these fictional geeks.

Round 6

Q: Wu Zetian leads the Chinese in the fifth iteration of what computer game?

A: Final Fantasy

Round 7

Q: Fill in the blank in a Star Wars line - "I Love You. ____"

A: "Sorry, I'm gay"

Round 8

Q: Which group tried to assasinate Margarent Thatcher in a bombing at a Brighton hotel?

A: The Rebel Alliance

We showed some love to the obsessive music geeks at Maple Leaf Pub this week.

Round 2 was our standard "Title and Artist" format, with a bunch of classics songs about Life. Any round that works in Social Distortion and Cake is going to be a favorite of mine.

The music theme continued with Round 3, where I named different musicians and you had to tell me the instrument they all played. This was in the Sooner or Later format, giving a much needed boost to those brave enough to turn answers in after three clues. Everyone was pretty sure on the basics - bass, guitar, drums - so I suppose I'll forgive you all for being a bit flakey on famous flute players. (BTW, I strongly considered throwing in Alyson Hanigan in American Pie as a bonus clue on that).

Round 7 was sort of music-related too - I'd hesitate to call it a purely musical round because Roseanne's screeching is technically considered a form of sonic abuse. Still, I think there were enough recognizable performers doing the National Anthem to qualify. A question for you all: Isn't hiring Scott Stapp to sing the national anthem a bigger insult than flag burning?

This week unquestionably went to Screwnicorns of Catan. Sometimes the stars line up for a team, and this week the Screwnicorns got a perfect score on three rounds (plus nearly perfect on two others) for a grand total of 92 points. In second place The Stachios Are Getting Married had 85 points, and Three Legged Stool, Maggie Thatcher On The Guillotine, Shit, I Don't Know and You Got Cookies So Share Them Maybe all cracked 70 points.

Well, I feel a bit of an idiot (not just the usual amount).

Last week, I poked gentle fun at you all for lower-than-anticipated scores. It turned out Maple Leaf Pub was the highest scoring venue that night and Maple Leaf teams were ranked #1 and #5 in the nation! I promise to never doubt you again.

Well, never doubt you after i get over how tough Round 1 was for everyone tonight. I think it may be the noted unmusicality of my voice, but love songs condensed to 10 words really was a challenge.

Still, everyone came roaring back in Round 2, with an unprecedented three perfect scores on Round 2! Way to go La Win Du Monde, Two Zombie Thumbs Up and April Trousers!

Moving onward, we had yet more perfect scores in Rounds 3, 6, and 7. To paraphrase that lady I heard on the radio but who's name I don't remember, these {teams} are on fire! (end pop culture reference module).

Toting it all up, Two Zombie Thumbs Up got second place with 87 points, while April Trousers held on to their lead for the night to win with 89 points!
