After playing at Geeks Who Drink games for about two years, I decided it was time to get on the other side of things and give quizmastering a try.  The great thing to me about Geeks Who Drink is that I can go to a huge number of cities, find a local game on the website, and know exactly what the rules are going to be for the game when I first step into a new bar in a different city.  That's what I've done all across Texas and I've always had a great time playing.

There was a time before quizmastering when I worked on the radio, so if you come to my quiz, don't be surprised to hear a "Radio Ron" style voice belting out the questions.

Greetings, quizzers!  Mark here recapping last night's quiz.  Our team theme name was "Iphone Apps I Wish They Made."  At the last minute, I went ahead and added a second team name theme in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day, which apparently was celebrated worldwide on 9/19 (who knew?).  Team's participating in the Iphone app theme included Is It In Yet? (if you need this app, you may have some rather . . . small issues with yourself) and the very meta "Turn My Phone Into an Iphone" App.  Teams walking the plank and taking a dive into the pirate theme included Well Blow Me Down, 47 Percent of Pirates Expect Free Booty, Chest O' Booty, and Salty Dogs, One brave team attempted to incorporate BOTH themes into their name.  Kudos go  out to Angry Somalian Parrots (get it?  as in a pirate version of Angry Birds) who would have won some free beers if they didn't leave before I handed out the best team name prizes!

This weeks audio clues in Round 2 seemed to throw a lot of teams for a loop.  Instead of playing a clip of a song as is par for the course, you got a spoken word version of a song's lyrics translated into piratese.  Regrettably, most people took Spanish, French, or Latin in school instead of Pirate.  The highest scores on this round were 12s, which a few teams earned.

Round 7, normally the movie/TV show audio clip round ran a little differently tonight.  We played you a single two minute clip from The Princess Bride and then gave teams an eight question pop quiz about what they had just heard.  There was a lot of info packed into those two minutes and it definitely helped if you've obsessively watched The Princess Bride in the past.  We had two teams walk away with seven points in this round.  Hats off to Well Blow Me Down and Is It In Yet? for getting the top scores by keeping their ears open (can you do that?  I'm not sure).

When the dust settled at the end of the quiz, Is It In Yet? walked away with first place.  Nipping on their heels was Well Blow Me Down, who complained to the heavens after the quiz that if they had just jokered any round but the eighth--which is what they used their joker on--they would have walked away with first place.  Best taem name prizes were awared to 47 Percent of Pirates Expect Free Booty and Chest O' Booty, proving once again that Dominica and I are way to fascinated with booty.

Next weeks team name theme will be in recognition the upcoming cinematic reboot of Judge Dredd: "Movies Sylvester Stallone turned down."  Don't forget to participate in the e-mail bonus question to win fabulous prizes, the likes of which ye hath never 'fore seen!  Sign up for the weekly e-mail newsletter on the Geeks Who Drink front page and you too could win fabulous prizes!

See you next Wednesday!
