Greetings, quizzers! Mark here, breaking down all the dos and happenings at Little Woodrow's Midtown this evening during the quiz. This was a tight game the whole night ending in yet another tie for third place. Our eventual winners didn't have the lead until the final scoring break and eaked out a victory by a thin margin.
Round 1 tonight was all about the sometimes not-so-great state of Mississippi. Despite being home to some of the modern era of football's best quarterbacks, including Archie, Eli, and Brett (football fans will put these three guys in the same category as Madonna and Pele in terms of being to identify them by a single name), Mississippi has only one city with more than 70,000 people in it: Jackson. Apparently, Sally Ride's Waffle Fries has some insider knowledge of Mississippi because they were the sole team to ace the round.
Our audio round tonight where we played a parody of a song and asked you to name the original artist and song title got absolutely demolished for the most parts, with high scores all around. Only four teams out of our twenty-one playing tonight didn't use their joker here. Lots of teams got high scores on Round 2, but only Pornstache and After I Smoke Enough Sherm I'm As High As Mr. Helmsley were able to get every question correct.
The rare speed round made an appearance tonight as well, giving everyone 2 mintues 30 seconds to name the eight Jackson's who are brothers and sisters of Michael. This was a tough one for everyone, as the highest score we saw on Round 3 was a five. I suggest everyone brush up on their Jackson family history, ASAP.
It all came down to Round 8, however. In the end, After I Smoke Enough Sherm I'm As High As Mr. Helmsley was able to overtake Sally Ride's Waffle Fries at the very end by scoring a near perfect fifteen on our random knowledge round. Sally Ride's Waffle Fries had been in first the previous two scoring breaks, but stumbled on Round 8, by only scoring twelve points, after having run only a hair above the pack for most of the game.
We gave away our Bananagram e-mail bonus question prize tonight. As you can see from the photographic evidence, Jeff was ecstatic to win it.
I'll see you again next week at 8:30 for another installment of GWD Pub Quiz! Excelsior!
