10 years ago, I left the frozen tundra of Canada to escape the blistering cold of winter, only to move to South Texas where I now run the risk of combusting in the blistering heat of summer.  Apparently I'm drawn to extremes.  No middle of the road for this Crazy Canuck.

I was in severe need of a creative outlet and a place where yelling obsenities at people was acceptable, (and wouldn't get me fired).  Then one day I was handed a microphone by the Overlords at Geeks Who Drink.  I was instructed to "Go forth and entertain drunken nerds with wit and snark.  Oh, and ask them these quiz questions while you're there."

And so I did, and it was good.

If you quiz at a venue where video rounds are shown for round 7, then chances are it was produced by me.  I hope you enjoy them.

I have been accused of "hating everything" but I actually like many things.  I am a total geek for Star Wars, the works of Neil Gaiman, The Ramones, Shonen Knife, Nerdist, (Classic) Dr. Who, pro wrestling, good beer, poutine, British television and cheese.  All else is pointless, irrelevant and a waste of time.

I am also a part-time ninja.

Tonight was a very special night. Tonight we celebrated a crowning achievement in the history of our world. Tonight was a celebration of an outstanding event. Tonight we celebrated the fact that scientists may very well have found the Higgs Boson particle. Oh and you Americans were celebrating some sort of birthday or anniversary or something? Happy 4th everyone!

Out of all the venues in San Antonio that run a quiz on Wednesday nights, Firehouse was the only one that opted to run a quiz on July 4th. I did not know what to expect. I was pretty sure most people would be too busy grilling, drinking, attending various events and waiting for fireworks to start instead of coming out for their regular quiz. However a bunch of you came out, and for that I thank you!

We had a decent sampling of “patriotic crap” and “other shit American's should know” to help us celebrate the holiday.

Have you guys managed to get that icky image I painted for you of a big Randy Quaid running around “crop dusting” people. I know I haven't. Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy in that regard. I'm sure everyone out there knows that “crop dusting” is the act of farting while walking and spreading the smell around with you. Now imagine Randy Quaid as his Independence Day character “crop dusting” a room full of people. You're welcome.

We paid tribute to fire with our round two tonight. I guess there weren't enough songs about blowing ones fingers off with fireworks, so we had to settle for just songs about fire. What world do we live in when ever single team can identify Firestarter by The Prodigy but only ONE team can identify that classic Playing With Fire by the Rolling Stones? FOR SHAME! Now get off my lawn!

We had a solo player from another Wednesday night venue come out and take on all comers. By the end of round 6 I really thought he was going to be able to kick all your asses as he was tied for first. Sadly, a bad turn during the video round is probably what put the kibosh on that. I was hoping he would pull it off as we've never had a solo player take the top spot at Firehouse. But The Picture Of Dorian Grey's Anatomy had to settle for third place. Heput up a good fight and gave everyone a decent run for their money. Bravo!

We should be back to our regular crowd next week when there isn't a national holiday taking place. I thank all of you that came out to spend the 4th with me, and I'll see you all next week!
