I grew up in Burlington, VT, and moved here on a whim in 2003.  Became the quiz presenter at White Horse Tavern in 2005, where I worked for 7 years for another quiz company. Then Geeks Who Drink came a-callin'.  I first rejected their overtures, but joined the family when they offered to pay me in hair gel.

When I'm not hosting your quiz or hitting on you, I enjoy horse racing, kayaking, baseball, and football.  I once won $33,000 on a $48 horse ticket.  I was on "Judge Mathis" in 2004, and also appeared locally on the Red Sox trivia game show "The Batters' Box" in 2009.  Yet, I still get recognized for appearing for ten seconds on a casting special for "Beauty and the Geek" in 2005.  Seriously, it's aired on television maybe twice, and people recognize it.  It's stupendous.

So goes the old adage about the relative physical attractiveness of a woman at closing time at a bar and of said woman the next morning.  "But Will, what does that have to do with tonight's quiz?"  Well, tonight's Round 2 was entitled "Looking Good," in which I played clips from eight songs pertaining to looking and seeing. You know you're throwing curveballs when U Mad? hangs a six out of a possible 16 points.  They acknowledged, however, that their music expert had the night off, as they played with only four players instead of their usual five or six.  I thought Tonic's "If You Could Only See" was more memorable.  I suppose not.  Not "looking good" indeed.

The difficulty of Round 2 caused a great deal of atypical jokering.  Of the 19 teams that played the entire game, a whopping 8 teams jokered outside of Rounds 2 or 8, which is seldom a winning strategy, especially not against a field this large and talented.  And yes, all 8 of those teams jokered inefficiently, most notably Team Landing Strip, who jokered a 5 in Round 4, leaving a 14 in Round 8 only worth its singular value.  That nine point swing would have put them in the Top 10 tonight. Let that be a lesson to all.  It's extremely rare that you won't get more than 8 points on both Round 2 and Round 8, so don't get an itchy trigger finger if you don't fare well with the music identification.

Also, for the love of God, everyone, Jerry Sandusky saying "They Can Never Take Away My Memories" is from the Onion.  Who in their right mind would seek him out for a real quote in the "past couple of weeks," as I explained in the Round 3 instructions?

What Does It Mean When They Call My Girlfriend a Doorknob? won by three. Um, it means that she's polished.  Yeahhhhhh.  U Mad? tried their Round 8 magic, but a jokered 15 only got them to second.  Wild Bill, however, did win the e-mail bonus prize.

I don't know a damn thing about greyhound handicapping, but there's a couple of free contests in New Hampshire this weekend, so I'm off to take a crack at those as I continue my quest to return to the Horse Player World Series in February.  In the meantime, enjoy the final weekend of this beautiful October before we get soaked, and we'll talk Sunday at 8!
