Everything in Hamburger Mary's can be interpreted in its own 'special' way. I meant to make the joke that I have the Brady Bunch squares tattooed on my back, so during the commotion that was people finding out Mike's position in the title grid, I said "yeah, I've got that tattooed on my back" when a player shouted out "What? Center-Bottom?" To which I gracefully accepted would be a great tramp stamp.
What a great quiz last night, and started with one of my favorite TV shows, Punky Brewster! I like to bring up two important things about that show; first, I was scared of getting stuck in the fridge when I was a child because of her, and second, she is and will forever be my fashion icon. She just looks so cool! We also had the Kardashians, Kurt Russell, and Barack's father Barack in the first round on Adoptive Fathers.
Round 2 was a little tricky and did have some obscure Punk Rock from Green Jelly, but we also had some sweet Black Sabbath and Spacehog, a 14 year old Jacy was made really really happy.
State Songs was pretty fun because you got to really think things like "Where is Lynyrd Skynyrd from?".
I enjoyed "I know you are but what am I" in Round 4, especially a certain player just shouting out Kurt Russell for most of the answers. Lets not forget all of the amazing accomplishments of Kurt Russell. First, he escaped New York, LA, and Cleveland, which is something I don't think most people can do. He ran into Big Trouble in Little China and saved the world there. On top of all of that he was probably the creepiest person in a Quentin Tarantino movie, which really is a hard race to win. Also I got to reference Stalin's sweet mustache in this round, so it was a huge success.
Visual round was a little tricky with Boondock Saints, but teams nailed it.
The 'mentally disabled' round was a lot of fun, getting to talk about 'There's something about Mary'. Dakota Fanning, and of course Forrest Gump's mom having sex with the principal.
Audio round! I thought I was going to have to apologize to everyone for "The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen" but no!, that was a lot easier for everyone than "Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince". Regardless, we got to play a stereotypical Italian from "Lady in the Tramp" and that was fun.
The last round did have a few challenging questions, like having to think of cities in New Zealand, I just thought it was sheep grazing and Peter Jackson's film crew.
We still had a very high scoring game, with You Never Go Full Retard come in first place (and also have player Lazer running to the stage for free drinks), There's something you need to know about Mom was in second place (also siblings on the team so I also assume that was them actually bringing up a talking point. Then Holy Shit I'm getting married in 2 days and it's Dax's Birthday was in third, but first in having the longest name and ashamed for making Dax's birthday second to some dude's marriage. Special acclaim to EA who played a great first game, Game of Drones in a close 4th, and Good Game Players in 5th.
It's always a great Starlette Revue for me when Tammie Brown and Landon Cider are there. Landon got to do his Jesus act (amazing) and Tammie sang her original song "Clam Happy". Allusia and Jewels were there to make the show even better. One of my favorite shows in a while. I also got to talk to Tammie about old bad horror movies with Landon, then we brought up Garbage Pale Kids and I had my childhood all over again. Tammie awkwardly called me Pumpkin when I walked up to her and said "Good show", I think we crossed a boundary.

Let me just start by saying that I pushed to hard with Jewels last night and got the wrath of a drag queen. When she asked me if the quiz was "rough" I told her it was as "rough as her scruff' to which she replied "you motherfucker" before opening up on me. It was first "are you single?" to which I said "no", she was surprised and said "who would date you…" When Jewels found out she was in the audience, she said "well I was going to say worse things, but she looks nice." Then wondered if I got a girlfriend "because you cut off your Richard Simmons fro… then used it to make my wig". Then everyone learned that Richard Simmons visited Drag Queen Bingo last night, so just imagine during a bingo game last night the wonderful Richard Simmons got up on stage and got the crowd to Jazzercise…. crazy times. We then talked about the new charity "Locks for Queens" its like "'Locks of Love' but a worse cause" to which I just responded "It's actually a lost cause". We also talked about the importance of drinking during the quiz; you may not be better at the quiz, but you think your better, and if you're drinking enough you are convinced you're winning regardless.
What a great quiz last night, mostly because of the fact I got to play the "Harlem Shake" and "Shake your Tailfeathers" during the same quiz. Some of the music was a challenge but still a number of awesome songs. The 'Duh' round was a lot of fun, I do like here the collective "oh yeahs…" when I say the answer. There was an interesting Todd or Seth MacFarlane round, where you had to say which one was which. A little more tricky than you think.
Now the Movies according to my Jewish Grandmother, where I had to remember how to do a Jewish accent. I guess I haven't been doing it too often. At first I just sounded like I was from Fargo, then I channeled my 89 year old Great Aunt's voice and thought of her saying "oh Jacy, my little genius at UCLA" and I was in! But the problem, her voice is really gravel-ly so I had to do a "softer version" as to not kill my voice and I think it just came out more of a Woody Allen. When I said "that voice hurts" someone from the audience said "Your grandmother hurts" which I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I liked it.
Sitcoms! Since I have spent way too much time watching television this really was just me trying to remember voices that I have come across on TBS on afternoons after school (or when coming home really late to watch as I ate cereal). And then having to remember their names! Great round mostly because of the inclusion of "Yes, Dear" a show that I always thought was hilarious.
The winning team had an unfair advantage with the last round as I later found out because a teammate is an AP US History teacher that just went over the Revolutionary War and Supreme Court Cases and basically got 15 out of the possible 16 points… and then Joker-ed. This was the same player that came up to me after Round 2 and was telling me how hard this quiz was, and then they walk away the winners for the night. I did like a number of the questions, including the female rappers who have platinum records, most people got Lil' Kim, there were a number of "Queen Latifah"s or "Nicky Minaj"s but some people went back in time and remembered Missy Elliot.
We had that wonderful team Mared come in first place, Jizzly Bears in second, and Choady Arias in third, all very close. Choady Arias is a name I feel a little dirty saying. I was happy with the very close game we had going on outside the top three including a tie for 4th place with Champagne for my Real Friends, Real Pain for my Sham Friends and Epic Fail. Melissa of Epic Fail walked away with a sweet box of matches that say "Don't say the word Shit" on them for her bathroom. She picked those, so I wonder about her bathroom situation if she "needs" those. Not far behind was Joey Puts In, Purple Monkey Dishwasher, and Breaking Bard all playing a wonderful game. A huge shout out to all the teams that came last night and braved the crowds that were showing up to see the wonderful Latrice Royale performing. The show was fantastic, including wonderful performances by Fantasia and Shannel.

I do stumble over certain words, mostly the "foreign" ones, or words with common roots but have a slightly different pronunciation (i.e. Economist). Last night, Contextual Orgasm was my stumble-over team name, to which I said "having a lot of trouble saying that team name, and having one". But that did not stop us from having a lot of fun last night at Hamburger Mary's, It was a glorious quiz, from a crazy visual round, Sports video games, Justice League-ers, and EGOT Winners, this quiz had it all.
I was really happy with the first question on Cletus the slack jawed yokel, mostly because of The Simpsons' song "some folks'll never eat a skunk, but then again some folks'll, like Cletus the slack-jawed yokel". That cracks me up every time I hear it.
One of my favorite audio clips we at Geeks have ever done was the Brittany Spears trick in Round 2 where you had to remember there was a difference between "Oops I did it again…" and "Baby one more time". I loved that questions, it made you stop and really think…. and realize how much those songs sound the same.
I was a little surprised, and somehow offended, by how many people did not know the difference between DC and Marvel… this is a large demarcation in my life. It's like saying that time Bella and Edward had to fight Harry Potter… both contain magical elements, but they are completely different "worlds". A number of teams had written names like "Captain America" or "The Hulk" for the answers. When I saw it the first time I was surprised, by the time I saw it on multiple quizzes I was just sad.
Round Five I found the most challenging of any round we've ever done… ever. That being said, you teams did GREAT! A lot of people got the "Who won the Ball game" little riddle and figured out "Shapes" in the crossword. Most teams did the math question and word cube correct too. I was really impressed. Probably because I would have seen that, felt overwhelmed, then cried in the corner eating fried appetizers.
On to the sports questions, some of those were also very challenging but we had a very important clarification, Pitching a Perfect Game is different than having a "no hitter", because of balls! Usually in Hamburger Marys it doesn't matter if you have balls (just ask the Starlette Revue performers), but this time, it makes a difference. A girl came up to me to have me repeat the first question on the NBA game named after an alliterative penalty and I asked her if she knew what "alliterative" meant, she shouted at me "I'm a grad student" and stormed off. This after she shouted at me during the entire "orientation" that she didn't have what I was talking about (when her teammate across her table had everything).
Finally, EGOT winners, I thought that was the most fun of a questions by far. And a little tricky, but also very straightforward and well thought out. You didn't have to just "know" you could kinda make educated guesses. Regardless, I thought it was great.
We had a number of great teams playing last night, in third place we had Simon the Punisher, second the illustrious Good Game Players (with some help from Hamburger Marys Wonder-boy Esteban), and Contextual Orgasm coming in first. I could have gone for a cheap joke and said "cumming" in first, but that is just silly. A big shout out to the very impressive teams "2 T's and a D" who played a great game, and Epic Fail who came in 4th, just missing out on the money.
A fantastic Starlette Revue last night with a personal favorite, Misty Violet, the incredible Wendy Ho (Youtube, its important), and RuPaul Drag Race winner Raja.
