Mike (Big Papa)

Big Papa is area improv goon Mike Ferris.  He likes video games, comic books, pub quizzes and LOVES his daughter!

I think proper tone setting music is absolutely vital to a quiz.  I could start every quiz playing "The Facts of Life" theme song and people people would be jazzed, so long as it was consistent.  Instead, I use the awesome, hype inducing, iconic theme song from Doctor Who.  Have you never heard of Doctor Who?  Get off this blog right now.  Go see it.  Until then we have nothing to discuss.

There?  We good?  The non-whovians gone?  Good, cause we've got a Quiz to discuss!  Last night was an awesome mix of regulars and newbies.  A special shout out to Bag of Douches the first (and only ones) to answer last weeks "Blog Challenge".  They provided me with a lovely doodle of a dog wearing a hat and scored a wonderful "I <3 Cough Syrup" pin for 14 year old Daniel.  Well done BoDs!

We love those that answer our email question of the week, and for The Drunken Nomads that meant a pair of sweet-ass geek socks.  I don't know about you guys, but I think she rocked them a bit better than your dear Quiz Master would have.  The Drunken Nomads are veterans of the pub quiz scene and hopefully will return for subsequent nights.  You don't have to roam any more, Nomads!

Once again bringing the heat was returning gladiators Dow Hat?  They won themselves the big prize last night, winning first place with an impressive score of 70!  On top of that, scoring the first (and only) perfect round of the night, we toasted team member "Sarah" with a limeric.  You too could have a limeric written about you, you just have to score a perfect round and the entire bar will drink to you and your legacy, oh Viking of Quizzes!

You know what Olympic sport doesn't get near the recognition it deserves?  Speed walking!  Or so team Eh Hole would have me believe.  They were the recipients of the evening's "Best Wrong Answer of the Night" award.  Congratulations, you Canadian bastards!

Thank you very much to Ferkin, No Name, and The Purple Pirates for making their Quiz premier with us at Granite City.  We love newbies and will welcome you back any time!  And speaking of newbies, the lone quizzer from Purple Pirates has just recently moved to Kansas City from a town of 500 in South Carolina.  Homeboy needs some love, so come on Geeks, let's make him feel warm, fuzzy and welcome at our weekly geekery gatherings!  Which brings us to...

Next weeks challenge of the week:
Whoever brings Keith of the Purple Pirates the best Welcome Card will win something special.  It can be storebought, but I think it would be SO much better if it were home made.  Sparkles are not mandatory, but HIGHLY recomended.  :)
Until Next Week, Geeks!

XOXO

Mike
