I wish this blog had audio that started up when you started reading, ya know, like those shitty websites everyone made in 1995? Except all my blogs would open up with the Montell Jordan classic "This Is How We Do It". And now you know a little more about me.
We had 13 teams out tonight, in spite of some pretty gnarly weather that looked to be heading our way. Good to see BJs, Hugs and Tickles again and the team who always does the Jeff Goldblum shout out in their team names. I'm just going to assume he is your spirit animal or something.
Round 4 tonight, about poorly described TV shows was probably one of my favorite rounds in recent history. Seemed like many of you dug it too. Except for The Girls, who got a 1 on that round. Sorry ladies.
And yes, Kyle McLaughlin HAS done more things than Twin Peaks but thanks for trying.
The Packers got the "bottomfeeder" prize for turning in 8 rounds and finishing bottom of the heap. We had a team that had to bolt after round 4 and they were only 1 point behind The Packers. That is some epic "trying and failing" right there. But that did lead to the best GWD testimonial I've ever received. One of the members of The Packers came up and said "I always leave here feeling so stupid but its always SO MUCH FUN". I'm gonna see if we can add that to our promotional materials.
But on to the winners. BJ's Hugs and Tickles finished in 3rd place. Japantera were 13 points ahead of them and got 2nd, leaving the top spot to Stretch Hummers Full of Jeff Goldblum fans .
See everyone next Tuesday. And don't forget about the Game Of Thrones quiz on June 8th!
Another Tuesday at the wonderful Gibson with you lovely folks. Glad to know the sub last week didn't scare you away.
I could go on and on about the quiz but I'm dedicating this blog to the God DAMN CRAB AND TOMATO GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH I HAD FROM LUKE'S TRAILER OUTSIDE THE BAR. ahem. Sorry. But no, it was so amazingly good.
We had a pretty lively group of 15 teams play with us last night. From the two person MeowMix team sitting right in front of me to a huge birthday party out on the back deck, you fought your way through current event rounds, a round on "gay songs" (and yes, I agree, Meowmix, that "I Kissed A Girl" is a pretty crappy "gay song"), and an either/or round. This is the time that I openly admit that it was only 5 short years ago that someone corrected me and told me it was "all intents and purposes" and not "all intensive purposes". That means I was almost 30 years old before I realized I had been trying to sound educated, yet coming off like an idiot. So, ya know, not much has changed.
Also. Duckman. You should all watch it. Not sure if its out on DVD but I'm sure someone has uploaded episodes to Youtube.
And after round 8, we had a tie for 2nd place. But before we talk about that, the aforementioned MeowMix got a special, $5 gift card to Gibson for losing by nearly 20 points, KNOWING they were gonna lose by 20 points and still trying their damnedest til the bitter end. Way to own your lack of knowledge.
So, tiebreaker. Butt Thunder and 239 Calamity both finished in 2nd place so I asked each team to draw the outline of West Virginia, which, for those of you too lazy to look it up, kinda looks like a typical halloween ghost, tilted at a 45 degree angle, with his arms up in the air, shrugging his shoulders. No. Really. Go look and tell me I'm not wrong.
Butt Thunder were just a little more "west virginia-y" than 239 Calamity so they took home 2nd with Calamity coming in 3rd. Regulars Edison Hate Future finally had less than 6 people on their team and walked away with a convincing win.
See everyone next Tuesday. Dont forget the Game of Thrones quiz on June 8th as well.
I have been in Austin for almost three years and tonight was the first time I have made it to the Gibson. My name is JJ and I was your guest QuizMaster for the evening. It was not an easy task filling in for Stephanie here at Gibson. I gave a valiant effort and with the help of the staff we were able to pull off a fun night of quiz, filled with childhood memories and metal.
Throughout the night I was asked several times about the variety of songs playing between questions for the quiz. There are songs ranging from metal bands like Five Finger Death Punch to Broadway musicals such as Rent or Avenue Q. By the end of the night I felt like a radio DJ with all the requests coming in from the bar.
Right before round one we had a surprise prize offered up by the people at Dripping Springs Vodka. They gave a round of drinks for the team who “won” the first round. Quiz in my Pants & The Rosa-Sharks both had a perfect round one. Although since Quiz in my Pants was leading after the first scoring break they won the free round of drinks. Also there was a question about your Quizmaster. The first person who gave me the correct answer, would in the words of ACDC, have a drink on me. The question was guess what city I am from, it did not take long for one quizzer to notice the giant Phoenix Coyotes sticker on my laptop.
The quiz night belonged to three teams. Quiz in my Pants won third place by default because We will Cunt Punt You left before the scores were read. In second place we had An invitation to the anti orgasm league. If you cant cum let me know. They came all the way back from seventh place to get their prize. Our winners tonight were The Kakumbas, they jumped ahead early and never looked back.
I want to thank all the teams that came out tonight and made this QuizMaster feel welcomed. Next week Stephanie shall return to claim her throne here at Gibson.
