I was born & raised in San Diego, California, I left for a few years to attend and graduate from the University of Arizona. Bear down! I spend my days teaching Tucson's youth--the future of America (get out while you can--seriously.) In my spare time, I enjoy geeking out at quiz or hanging with friends!

I love animals, science, books....and quizzing! There's more to know...but really, who cares?

Keep Calm & Geek On!

First of all, thank you to all the awesome quiz virgins who came out to support the San Diego launch of our awesomeness. I also want to thank our venue, Redwing Bar & Grill—they stepped up to the place, giving our quizzers the experience of playing our quiz, giving free beer tickets to winners of our bonus questions and giving our top 3 teams gift certificates to the bar! Again, thank you!

Let’s see what went on during our written quiz: Round 1 was a round on stabbings. I just keep thinking about Anchorman’s : “I stabbed a man in a heart.” Yeah, Brick, you did. Well, we know that Sean Bean got stabbed by a nudie model—which tells you, keep your hands off the merchandise, or she’ll cut a bitch. And Jack the Ripper terrorized women in the Whitechapel neighborhood in London.  However, one team believed that Angelina Jolie played Eddard Stark in Game of Thrones.  And for that, I thank you. You made me giggle while grading. Round 2 was our very first audio round for our quizzers and we brought it For Those Aboot to Rock, which was a round on Canadian artists. We had awesome songs from Loverboy, Rush and Bryan Adams.  But screw those Nickelback guys. However, did you guys know that Canada’s national animal is the Bieber?  I say, kill them all so we can have decent music back and underage girls and some grown men can lead a normal life.

Anagrams made up a confusing but fun Round 3. I gave a two clues to two words that were anagrams of each other and the number of letters in each. Everyone got that a rose was a flower with thorns and sore is how your thumb feels when you pick too many. Or when you break it, thumb-wrestling for a chance to be within 100 feet of the Biebs. Oh wait, no self-respecting adult would do that.

Round 4 was all about watercourses and Ghostbusters. R.I.P John Belushi—you would have made an excellent addition to the Ghostbuster’s team. The Muskogee tribe are also known as Creek tribe. And apparently, Bobby Brown did the theme to Ghostbusters 2. Bobbaaaayyyy! Good job, sir. Our visual round 5 showed us that June was busting out all over with blooms. You match flower pictures to their names.  Hibiscus make an excellent summer flowers and peony’s are funny to pronounce when you’re surrounded by drunk men. Round 6 was an ode to the recent Stanley Cup finals—or was it a flashback to the round on Canada? Either way, we discussed Slaps, Shots and Slap Shots. Franz Ferdinand started WWI with his awesome music (just kidding) and Bon Jovi’s Slippery When Wet album gave is the awesome line “Shot through the heart and you’re to blame.”  Which, ironically, I say to all my ex-boyfriends. Round 7 was another audio round, where quizzers had to name the songs that were way out of copyright. Danny Boy, Waltzing Matilda, Turkey in the Straw and Amazing Grace were the easy ones…but “the Harlem Globe Trotters theme song” was not the correct response for Sweet Georgia Brown.

Round 8, our Random Knowledge round, covered things from Pinkberry’s CEO going maiming a poor hobo, to naming the continent given the name of the largest lake there and naming and of the 4 presidents who served in ‘Merica from 1841 to 1850. My high school AP Government would be disappointed in me that I couldn’t do it…sorry Mr Peterson. But several of our teams got them right!  Great job!

All of our teams did a fantastic job for their first quiz ever! I was so proud that every one of them got a prize! You’re welcome! It was I’m a Loner, Dottie, a Rebel meandered in to win our 3rd place prize, which was a $10 gift certificate to Redwings. Team ROFL Bear did well all night and snagged the 2nd place $15 gift certificate! Roffles for everyone! And the early bird team, Aardvarks, practiced using the electronic bar trivia machines before quiz. And it paid off since they won the 1st place prize of the night! The $25 gift certificate was theirs! Congrats and again, thanks to all who came out to play!

We will see everyone out again, next week! Bring all your friends and spread the word!

Remember stay classy, San Diego!
