Today was quite the interesting night. Normally we have at least 12 teams but due to Olympics, vacations, Neil Young, or whatever else is happening the turn out was rather small today. I'm ok with that. I start a new schedule and have to be to work at 7AM so an early night is just what I needed. This was also the first night that I finished the evening 100% sober. I actually remember everything that happened tonight. So, lets get started.
Round 1 was a quick round about banks. We had two teams get perfect scores on that round. Baked Mac and Cheese and Speed Biscuit. I'm very happy that this wasn't a round on just Chase bank or any of the other financial institutions, this included questions such as who were Mr and Mrs Banks in Fresh Prince of Bel Air? I was shocked on this one. Every person knows that theme song better than any other theme song in history, yet only a couple people got it right. Phil and Vivian. Are people that over the Fresh Prince? The main disappointment though comes from me not playing Nightmare on My Street or I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson, or even Girls Ain't Nothin But Trouble. It's obvious I'm not over them yet.
Round 2 was a round of songs that are also movies. Baked Mac and Cheese dominated that and used their joker. They only missed 1 point on that. Way to bring in 30 points on just one round. This also taught me how important it is to come play every single week. I'm pretty sure we had a Deep Blue Something audio clip just a couple weeks back. There is no excuse anyone should have missed that.
Round 3 was a speed round about the most Olympic medals. Tolstoy's Homeboyz did well on that one with 6 points. While China and Japan do well in the summer Olympics, they seem to tank in the winter Olympics. Also, speaking of Olympics, can we please stop calling it Beach Volleyball? You can't have a beach without water. What they are playing is sand volleyball.
Round 4 was the Recently in stuff round. Did anyone else know that India has electricity? You all pay attention to current events because that round had a lot of 7's and a perfect score of 8 by Speed Biscuit. Maybe the next recently round will include Serena William's "crip dance" celebration.
Round 5 was all about movies about car racing. Death Race 2000 was Sylvester Stallone's best movie ever. Where else can you run people over, get pissed at a guy named Frankenstein, and have someone score on their own driver. (scoring is done by killing people obviously) If you haven't seen this movie, you really should. Death Race was a good movie too, only because Jason Statham is the finest of the cheesy action movie actors. Also, I don't recall it ever being called the "wacky races" but I do remember the Laffalympics, which was the exact same thing. Multiple people getting it right means I'm wrong though. Baked Mac and Cheese got a perfect score on that round and there were also a lot of 7's.
Round 6 was our round about time travel. There wasn't a single question about Back to the Future at all, but there were questions about Stegosauruses and the show Sliders. Most people did bad on that round, but Speed Biscuit did get 7 out of 8.
Round 7 was another Olympic round with the country named replaced with "wadiya" This was a round I thought people wouldn't do very well at, but I was completely wrong. Baked Mac and Cheese and Speed Biscuit both got 7 on it. Pretty impressive since you actually had to watch the olympics opening ceremonies and remember the order of countries.
Round 8 was of course General Knowledge. This is where I am thankful I did the quiz sober. People found out that I cannot pronounce Ophiuchus at all. No prep in the world was saving that tonight. It would have only been a bigger mess sober. I also struggle with the word dyslexic like some people struggle with the word library. It's rather embarassing, yet now everyone knows it. Speed Biscuit and Tolstoy's Homeboyz both got 11 on that one.
A quick shout out to Tolstoy's Homeboyz, I owe you guys when I see you next.
This was definitely one of the higher scoring nights since Teller's started. Congrats to Baked Mac and Cheese who kicked ass all night long and Speed Biscuit only a few points behind them. I love high scores.
