Dear Geeks Who Drink,

I never believed the letters published in your blog before and never believed something like this could happen to me until I walked into Southtown 101 on Monday night. It was a hot and humid night and I walked into the bar for a refreshing drinking to cool down. There was a pub quiz going on when I arrived and, to be honest, I was captivated at once by the come-hither voice of the QuizMaster.

I was able to restrain myself for the first couple of rounds on current events and songs about sweet sticky candy. Then, the third round about sexual terminology came and I just could help myself. Before I knew what I was doing, I had a sharpened black pencil in one hand and an answer sheet in the other. I was afraid that I wouldn’t measure up to the other teams playing, especially Stinky Weasel Teets who had a huge sexual vocabulary, but I was put at easy when the QuizMaster announced, in that domineering yet gentle voice of his, that I wasn’t the only “quiz virgin” there tonight. It was Poppi’s first time as well. Soon I was jotting down answers with a furor unmatched by the other teams.

As the night went on, more and more scintillating questions were asked and more intoxicating bonus beers were handed out to willing hands and I found myself trying out rounds that I knew nothing about and was all the more grateful for the experience. Before I knew it, I was rubbing elbows (amongst other things!) with seasoned teams like Bacon! Bacon? We Don’t Need No Stinking Bacon! and Jizzy Fizz, who more than lived up to their name.

After a while, I didn’t know where the questions ended and the answers began. The other teams were more than accommodating to me and some even invited me to join them (maybe next time!). In the end, I was exhausted and exhilarated and couldn’t wait until next week.
