Everyone is surprised to find out that I'm actually not very good at pub quizes. In all honesty...I kind of suck at them. So why would I want to be a quizmaster, you ask? Because I LOVE ATTENTION!!! I would do this job for free, if I still got to speak on a microphone in front of a (semi) captive audience.

Tonight, we had an 11 year old genius in our midst. This kid was the ringer on his team - The Big Mohawk. It was looking shaky for a while, but in the end, Nick prevailed, and led his team to victory - ensuring his spot as the youngest person to ever win a Geeks Who Drink (Soda) Pub quiz (though in the end, his team was disqualified, because the Bar Manager happened to be his team mate).

Round 1 - Short Questions on Soft Drinks

  Winners:  Buddy Christ and the Disciples - Average Score:  3.67

Men Who Stare At Boobs had some creative, but very incorrect answers. Pork is not the ingredient left out of the Passover versions of Coke and Pepsi, Dove Ice Cream Bars (while very high in fat) was not even an option for this question, and while Yugoslavia sounds like it would be a delicious tea, the answer was Jamaica.

 

Round 2 - I Liked It Initially

  Winners: The Big Mohawk - Average Score: 3.43

Most of the teams knew REM, and How Bizarre...and not much else.

 

Round 3 - First & Last

 Winners: The Big Mohawk, Emzem, Harwell -  Average Score: 2.14

This crowd must have been in a christian fraternity or sorority, because they almost all aced questions 7 and 8. 

Blazing Stars couldn't hear very well over in the corner, because they guessed Beta and Pi...which weren't even options for question 8. 

 

Round 4 - Bulls & Bears

 Winners:  Emzem -  Average Score: 3.89

So many teams guessed Game Of Thrones for question # 1, I thought we might have an old fashioned, medieval-gauntlet throw down in here!

 

Round 5 - Behold Your Future, Jason Sudeikis

 Winners: Blazing Stars - Average Score: 2.22

Funny Guesses: Gilda Radner (Newman), Whitney (Newman), Macauly Culkin (Bruer), Seth Rogen (Piscopo), Seth Rogen (Rocket), Wanda Sykes (Cleghorne), Amish Chix Taco (Mitchell), Buick (Newman), Mahi Mahi Taco (Hutsell), Chix Toasta (Cleghorne), Rob Lowe (Rocket). Those last 5 guesses were from The Big Mohawk - I guess they were really distracted by Barrio's delicious menu during this round. 

 

Round 6  - Mild Alcoholism Plus Chronic Know-It-All

  Winners: Buddy Christ and the Disciples, Emzem, Not Sure Yet - Average Score: 5.1

This round was just depressing...but our teams did surprisingly well. They must all have very interesting medical histories. 

 

Round 7 - London Philharmonic Dorkestra

 Winners: Buddy Christ and the Disciples, Not Sure Yet -  Average Score: 2.7

After a round on diseases involving diarrhea, we needed a round on video games. We were DYING for something light and fun (horrid joke, I know, but I couldn't help myself).

 

Round 8 - Random Knowledge

 Winners: Blazing Stars - Average Score: 9.14

Many teams forgot that Halle Berry actually won an Oscar for Best Actress, not Best Supporting Actress.

 

Winner: The Big Mohawk (disqualified on technicality) - Winners, in effect: Buddy Christ and the Disciples

 

Second Place: Sugar Aww-Snap Peas
