Quiz Schedule

My name is Tom.  I got into this gig by kicking everyone's ass at the Quiz at Club Congress on a weekly basis until they pretty much had to give me a job.  Now I do 2 clubs in Tucson, and you should be at both of them.  Besides doing this, I play in a ska-punk band called Troy's Bucket, and I have a job teaching 7th grade social studies.  I'm a huge metal and punk fan, but I also dig a lot of other stuff.  Halloween is my Christmas.  A lot of that has to do with my birthday, December 24th, being totally ignored thanks to Christmas.  I left the sinking ship that is Detroit, but I still love the Red Wings.  That's a hockey team.  Hockey is the greatest sport in the world.  I am single, so feel free to line up at the QM's table to meet me.  I drink Guinness, so feel free to send one my way.  I still won't give you any extra points. 

I have a few favors to ask of my wonderful Canyon’s Crown Quizzers.  First, we didn’t make 20 teams this week.  That means we are back to Square One on our 3 week run of 20 teams to get a scorekeeper.  Please, folks, bring friends next week.  Bring enough friends that you have to break into 2 or 3 teams.  Second, spend a little time on geekswhodrink.com.  Besides enjoying the blog, there are a bunch of other things to check out on the website.  Particularly, check out the “suggest a round” section.  Every week, Quizzers come up to me and either complain about a round, or ask why we don’t do a round on something they want.  Let your voice be heard!  We want to know what you want to be quizzed on.  Third, it’s Halloween season.  I want to see some Halloween spirit!  I’m doing Halloween bonus questions for Halloween prizes, making scary drink coupons, wearing Halloween t-shirts, etc.  I’d like to see some other people wearing Halloween stuff, maybe get some Halloween artwork on the answer sheets.  I don’t know…be creative!

So, last night’s Quiz…

Round 1 was about things that stink.  Surprisingly, there were no questions on either the Romney campaign or the Jeff Flake campaign.

Round 2 was the world’s easiest audio round.  Other than the Busta Rhymes rip off of the Knight Rider theme, they were all pretty easy.  I say this as a guy who had no idea what “Call Me Maybe” was until about 6 months after everyone else.

Round 3 was a geography round.  I’ve learned to expect disappointment.  If I ever come into some money, I’m buying you all atlases.  Incidentally, this round reminded me how much I love the word ‘honky’.  I just don’t get to hear that word nearly enough.

Round 4 was written by a 7th grader for 7th graders.  Text language.  FML.

Round 5 was a visual round about going down.  Submarines, that is.  I screwed up and did my Sean Connery impression for Crimson Tide instead of Hunt For Red October.  Oops.

Round 6 was a round on botany.  I got a lot of complaints about this one.  Other teams did great on it.  Perfect example of why you need to go suggest your round ideas.

Round 7 was an audio round on Oscar winners and Razzie “winners”.  You guys were pretty good at identifying terrible movies.  How many of you paid to see Glitter anyway?  Shame…

Round 8 was, of course, random knowledge.  My favorite part of this round was the revelation that you are all big fans of the Pauly Shore movie, “Biodome”.  That explains a lot of why you don’t do well with science or history, I guess.   Haha
