Occasionally, it’s a question as to whether anyone will show up for the quiz. As I looked out over the quiet, vacant bar with fifteen minutes to go, I couldn’t help but wonder, where have all the players gone? I knew that the softball team would arrive to crash the party, but what happens when you throw a party and nobody comes?
There were a few familiar faces in the bar with ten minutes to go, as Kanye West drowned out the Travel Channel. Whatever, I’ve got a good set of challenging questions for tonight, though I might be quizzing into the wind. And you know that’s discouraged.
Thankfully at eight o’clock on the nose in flocked my regulars and we were off! I rearranged the rounds so we did the auditory rounds earlier, when the bar was quietest. Methinks it cut down on the repeating. Speaking of repeating, that will be the last time I make the ‘we do private parties’ plug. With a Cheshire cat grin, I was asked ‘how private?’ Alas, my pole dancing days are over.
At the end of the first three rounds, the first and second teams, and the third and fourth teams were separated by only one point. Everyone had used their jokers, and it was now going to be a very competitive game. Seriously, like all the trumps had gone with six more hands to play at the Florida Golden Lane tournament. Even for rounds with a fifty-fifty chance (Coffee or Pot) there was much adulating / wailing / gnashing of teeth as I read the answers!
It’s so great when the round builds to something, like it did today with round four. Everyone had ‘the Bill of Rights’ ready as the answer to the bonus question, but then had to write furiously when I asked something else about our first ten amendments to the Constitution. Cheap thrills Quizmaster. I know.
