Where to start?  The Limelight isn’t just a Pub that hosts a Quiz.  Tonight it’s where Lisa invited twenty of her closest friends for her birthday dinner and drinks.  So now I’m not just a Quizmaster, I a party crasher, and not as a guest, but as MC!  Awk-ward.  While they needed no additional entertainment, they were accommodating to those who were here to play.

As the birthday party wrapped up, in came the Limelight’s softball team.  Fresh from the field and allegedly drenched in grape Gatorade and soaked in beer, they were rather more boisterous than engaged.  So, to let the bar settle a bit with this changing of the guard, I did rounds 1, 3, and 4 while the bar was crowded, took a scoring break and circled back to rounds 2, 5, and 6.  By then the bar was a bit more empty and so rounds 7 and 8 were easily heard.  Round seven seemed much clearer for folks than our typical movie clips rounds with their attendant muffled dialog.

Tonight’s quiz as a tougher one than usual for novices, we had a couple of tricky rounds with special instructions.  But we had fun, and the questions were such that I had lots of giggles and back chat from the participants.  It’s always fun doing rounds where the teams have to yell ‘stop’ as I give increasingly obvious hints, because sometimes, as happens in life, it comes prematurely.

We had a tie for first place tonight so I got to use one of our 5 question sudden death rounds.  I love those nights when it’s a nail biter to the end, and each team is carefully tracking when to use their joker for maximum smack down.  Tonight was no exception and hopefully a fun night was had by all.
