10 years ago, I left the frozen tundra of Canada to escape the blistering cold of winter, only to move to South Texas where I now run the risk of combusting in the blistering heat of summer.  Apparently I'm drawn to extremes.  No middle of the road for this Crazy Canuck.

I was in severe need of a creative outlet and a place where yelling obsenities at people was acceptable, (and wouldn't get me fired).  Then one day I was handed a microphone by the Overlords at Geeks Who Drink.  I was instructed to "Go forth and entertain drunken nerds with wit and snark.  Oh, and ask them these quiz questions while you're there."

And so I did, and it was good.

If you quiz at a venue where video rounds are shown for round 7, then chances are it was produced by me.  I hope you enjoy them.

I have been accused of "hating everything" but I actually like many things.  I am a total geek for Star Wars, the works of Neil Gaiman, The Ramones, Shonen Knife, Nerdist, (Classic) Dr. Who, pro wrestling, good beer, poutine, British television and cheese.  All else is pointless, irrelevant and a waste of time.

I am also a part-time ninja.

Did any of you check out the Curiosity landing last night either on NASA TV or over the internet? That was so amazing stuff, I gotta say. I remember back in 1998 I think when they had a landing on Mars, and there was no streaming video, I think it was a still picture that would refresh every couple of minutes. Oh how times have changed, huh? But Paulina and I stayed up and we huddled around our laptops waiting for this amazing event. I was sad when I asked how many of you saw it last night, and not very many of you did. Were you watching the Olympics or were you sleeping like smart people?

And speaking of smart people, there were a whole bunch of you smart people that came out to quiz tonight. Sure a bunch of you were keeping one eye on your quiz packets and one eye on the Olympics up on the big screen, but hey, I'll take it. Better that than having you stay at home to watch the Olympics there instead.

I started out the quiz feeling a little grumpy. I now have to read a disclaimer during every quiz to tell you all what you all pretty much know already: That Geeks Who Drink is not for small children. It is entertainment for adults and it's best that little kids not be around during quiz. Apparently we're not being clear enough for the State of Texas or something. DRINK is in the name of the company and we hold this weekly extravaganza IN A BAR. Not sure how much more clear we can be. Oh wait, we can be more clear by repeating a disclaimer. Apparently someone in another city got their panties in a twist because their young child heard a word or something they shouldn't have. Parent got angry and decided to go full blown douche and got others involved. Really? Sheesh. So I'm thinking I'm going to get that disclaimer blown up super sized like and project it for all to see, and maybe we can turn it into a sing along every week. It'll be a hoot.

I'm going to recap last week's blog for a second. Last week in the blog I made fun of a newbie team because someone on their team asked me what a Fraggle is. This week, they came back again for quiz, and they named themselves, “What The Fuck Is A Fraggle!!!” This tells me two things. 1) You had enough fun last week that you came back this week to play again. 2) You not only read the blog and my comments directed at you, but you decided to poke a little fun at yourselves (and me). For that you guys are my favourite team of the week. The distinction doesn't win you any amazing prizes or anything like that. In fact I'll probably pick on you even more in furture weeks simply because I know you're down with a bit of fun.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM QUIZZERS TONIGHT:

-The Fresh Prince's Uncle and Aunt were named Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. (wrong, but amusing)

-The famous painting Pollico Verso depicts that every poular hand sign 'The Shocker”. If that were so, the women in the painting probably wouldn't look so angry.

-I also learned that some of you think that I'm kidding when I say no phones during quiz. Apparently attempting to cheat with Shazam during round 2 is ok now? Come on people. Cheating at pub quiz is really lame, and a real dick move. I would have brought the hammer down a lot harder on your score for the round but quite frankly you didn't have all that many points to forfeit in the first place. Guess you were busted before you could get much cheating done.
