Quiz Schedule
Monday nights, 8:00pm at Saint Rocke!
Shadan (shadude (the long winded Persian))

A geek of many sorts:

a space geek - believe it or not, I really am a rocket scientist

a music geek - used to be a DJ at my college radio station

a concert geek - live music rocks! (pun intended)

a live theatre geek - it's just a better value than the going to the cinema at this point

a musical theatre geek -more than an straight man rightfully should be

a political geek - it's a much better bloodsport than the MMA

a pop culture geek - grew up as a latch-key child, so TV was my babysitter

a bike geek - Orbea Orca with Campy Record-11 (if you know what that is, then you're a bike geek, too)

The King is Dead - Long Live the Queen!!!!

Now I'm not sure if I'm referring to how much more you people seem to love my wife over me or the dethroning of our 6-time Champions. But at any rate, last night was, shall we say, interesting to say the least.

I'm going to change up the format a bit and just get to our top story of the evening - throughout the evening, the top four teams were never more than a few points apart. Just like my first girlfriend, it was just that tight. (Wow! I can't believe I just said that - my wife is going to killllll me!!!)

Anyway, despite protests and controversy over Dougie's short-handed goal, last night came down to a 3-way sudden death. And in a great bit of misdirection, the final podium wasn't decided until an epic thumb-war for the ages.

So the moral of the story to all this is, when you call yourself "Bigger than Jesus," you are playing with karmic forces you do not understand.

I've got to finish up my presentation for Juno's Deep Space Maneuver (and no, it's not reference to some porno I'm working on - but I should probably google it just to be sure).

<insert Final Jeopardy music here>

I'm back.

Onto the quiz!

Round 1: Mystery Round
The answer to all the questions were hotels on the Vegas Strip, even though the questions had nothing to do with the Vegas Strip. Pretty sneaky, sis…..pretty sneaky.
Average Score - 4.7
High Score: 8 from Phat Chance and Bigger than Jesus (7 from four teams)

Round 2(audio): Mashups
Mashups are the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups of music: two great songs that go great together. However, who would have have thought there was a original "Dougie" by Lil Wil song 3 years before the one Cali Swag District made?
Oh, and one team's ridicule of Nickelback continues…..I think I'm starting to feel sorry for them (Nickelback, not the GWD team). And for another team, whenever they didn't know the band, their go-to band was The Smiths - this was kinda funny because one of the actual answers was in fact The Smiths (but for the mashup band, they still guessed The Smiths - my head is spinning just trying to describe this).
Average Score -  8.6 (out of 16)
High Score: 12 from Milksteak & Jellybean (11 from Phat Chance and Bigger than Jesus and Bone Eating Zombie Snot Worms ….. and all three teams gave the same answer for the song in question - so in the end, the controversy is moot)

Round 3: Two Truths & a Lie
A round that follows the Stewart/Colbert-ratio of having 2 truths for every lie. And as with enjoying the comedy of Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert, it takes a particularly sharp mind to distinguish between the two.
Oh course this round does beg a followup question: if the United States didn't win any gold medals in 1980 because of their Olympic boycott, how did our closest ally, the United Kingdom, win gold medals in 1980?????
Average Score - 4.6
High Score: 7 from Bone Eating Zombie Snot (6 from four team)

Round 4: Power Struggle
And as if the Lil Wil/Cali Swag District controversy from Round 2 wasn't enough, we got our second official protest in this round for what we call a hockey team with a player in the penalty box. Sometimes you people really need to remember Rule #3 - I am always right…..and if on the off chance I seem to agree with what you say, it's not because I was wrong. Why? BECAUSE I AM ALWAYS RIGHT!!!! (Now say it with me….."Shadan is always right!")
Average Score - 5.0
High Score: 6 from seven teams

Round 5(visual): All Mixed Up
My goodness!?!?!?! Do you people know your crazy or what??!?!?!?
Average Score - 7.4!!!!!
High Score: perfect 8 from half the teams!!!! (7 from all but two of the remaining teams)

Round 6: Hold On, I Have a Tip Calculator On My Abacus
My goodness!?!?!?!?!? Either you people don't know your numerical answers or your don't know your math - I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you can do simple arithmetic.
Average Score - 3.1
High Score: 6 from JLA

Round 7(audio): Spoiler Alert!
Well, most of you know your television better than you know your math.
Average Score - 4.9
High Score: perfect 8 from Oceanic 4! (7 from Bigger than Jesus and JLA and H2O Snap)

Round 8: Random Knowledge
Scores seem to indicate that this was a tougher final round than usual. And one team just couldn't pull it out like they normally do.
Average Score - 7.6 (out of 16)
High Score: 10 from Phat Chance and Bone Eating Zombie Snot Worms and JLA (9 from H2O Snap and Milksteak & Jellybean - but notice what team isn't listed here?)

You already got your scoring round up…..I don't think there is really much left to be said.
But Geeks beware, they might not be Bigger than Jesus next Monday, but they will be gunning for all of you to reclaim their crown. I'm just sayin'...

Near the start of the thumb war, I almost had to issue a DQ to Bone Eating Zombie Snot Worms for using his other arm (but he brought it down just in time).

In the middle of the action, look at the intensity, the determination, the tongue…..

And at the end, after the 3-count…..two thumbs entered, one one thumb was victorious (for 2nd place)...

E-mail Bonus Prize Winner: Teresa from Bone Eating Zombie Snot Worms with her new lip balm - kissing never tasted so good!

3rd place: Bone Eating Zombie Snot Worms (don't let those smiles fool you - they're still reeling over that massive thumb war defeat)

2nd place: Bigger than Jesus (hanging their heads in shame - as well they should with that below average Round 8…..actually, they made the average - but for them, that's "below average")

1st place: Phat Chance (given their lack of confidence with the sudden death questions, it was more like "bon chance" - it's French, look it up - but the true measure of great intelligence is in making the educated guess)
