In the wind and the rain we stormed a pub quiz at An Tua Nua tonight. We were dry and indoors but it was still pretty epic. As with last week, only two teams but the competition was as tight as possible. We also tried out a little experiment called "sooner or later" which was a bit of a failure because that Kid Lit round was super tough. Given the option of turning in answers sooner for double points or waiting for more clues and turning answers in later for single points, both teams felt iffy about the questions and chose for later.
Law School is Hard expanded their lead and exploded their point totals by jokering Round 2, adding 24 points to their early point tally. Ooh. La. La indeed. Bring Back The Pitcher Deal crept up upon that lead, completely nailing the entymology round, 8 for 8 on that one, very impressive. They saved their joker for round 8 which they scored a staggering 13 points pre-joker application (that's 26 total for those with an adding machine). It would have been a monumental come from behind victory had they been the actual victors. They fell one point short, and Law School is Hard were crowned your champions.
Tonights champions really brought the fire. Upon asking them if they had read our event blog, they mentioned "You really laid into us last week when you suggested we 'find smarter friends". They ignored my suggestion but they got smarter themselves and trumped the competition. Rain or shine, we'll be back next week for more hot quiz action.

Well, the college students are back in Boston but they are still slow to discover our brand of awesome here at An Tua Nua. Then again, considering their rampant consumption of recreational drugs, engaging in casual sex, and sleeping through countless lectures, who can blame them for not finding time in their schedules for Pub Quiz? This guy.
Those who did show up endured a quiz full of suprises and a tough as nails audio round two which even I found extremely challenging. Well guess what Junior! If you wanted it easy you should have stayed home and played along to Jeopardy! Teen Week. Those teenagers would have beat either of the teams who showed up tonight, but it was Dr. Know who persevered. Despite Scoring only 7 points in Audio Round two, it afforded them a lead which fluctuated but was never really in question. Completely easter egging the visual round for zero points still didn’t put them in considerable danger from team Steak Sauce.
Once again I would like to thank the GWD home office for fucking with me with these question sets. Even though Round 4 didn’t make me want to pee, the feeling came on strong halfway through Round 8, and just like Tycho Brahe I powered through that shit. At the end of the day, the Sox beat the Yankees and Dr. Know beat Steak Sauce.

You don't remember Goat Boy? Jim Bruer is my uncle and he'd be ashamed. That's a lie. What's not a lie is that everyone was asking for the previously installed quizmaster John Tullar tonight. I don't know his exact whereabouts but I'm sure you can all stalk him on The Face Book. John has moved on and I, Jon will add to the general air of confusion because Mommy and Daddy gave me that "John with a no H" distinction. I digress.
Tonight's quiz was attended by new converts and some of those drag-weights from the old guard. Performance of the evening among all these teams varied wildly and it made for an exciting finish! The Sexy Librarians (who wanted no part in having their pictures taken but TRUST ME-they were hot) squandered their joker in the single point Round 4 and had they used it in the double point round 8 would have came in 2nd. 3rd place for them because of this foolish manuever. E Pluribus Anus slid in and out of 2nd place all night long but their good smarts to save that joker for round 8 kept them in the prize-winning comittee.
Tonight was all about John Tullar though, in fact he bookended the standings. The first place team and clear dominators of tonights quiz, Thank God John Tullar is Gone finished 20 points ahead of your last place team We Miss John Tullar. Read into that what you will.
I got to say the word "Vagina" like ten times! I also impressed everyone with my pronunciation of the national drink of Brazil, the Caipirinha. We are building it here at An Tua Nua and as we all know "If you build it they will come". But we also know that "If you spilled it, dad will start drinking scotch and scream and throw your shit all over the room" so lets not spill it.
