Colin Farrell’s recent role in Total Recall made us think about what all the 90s action films would be like if he were to star in remakes of them. We thought about it so much we decided to make a visual round out of it. The verdict? Well most of them should be left as they are with the exception of Speed, but that’s only to help us erase Keanu Reeves from our collective conscious.

Eight teams assembled at Costello’s Tavern last night for the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz where the Geeks fielded questions on fluffy shit, pigs, Latin, Alaska, and much more. And at the end of the night, it was Wedding Warriors who came out on top with 68 points. Finishing in second was Neil Armstrong Guilty, Stripped of Moon Landing, then God Made Us who came in third. Next were Partners In Crime, and Rough Week For the Armstrongs. Mike Hunt is Wet, Will Paint For Food, and Dylaroo rounded out the standings.

The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:

Round 1 (Fluffy Shit) average – 5.38
Round 2 (Decades of Pop: ’75, ’85, ’95, & ‘05) average – 8.38 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (This Book is a Movie is a Game) average – 6.38
Round 4 (Uck-fay OO-yay) average – 5
Round 5 (Colin Farrell Hates Your Childhood) average – 5.25
Round 6 (An Alaska Round That Does not Mention Sarah Palin) average – 5.25
Round 7 (God & Religion in Film) average – 5.88
Round 8 (Randos) average – 6.38 (out of 16 points)

The first round was on all things fluffy, including Massachusetts-made Marshmallow Fluff. The audio round was on pop songs from ’75, ’85, ’95, and ’05. Round three was a multiple choice round where I read off a franchise and the Geeks had to identify what came first: the movie, the book, or the game.

Next was the round on pigs and Latin, followed by the visual round where we superimposed Colin Farrell in eight actions films from the 90s. Round six was a round on Alaska (because Geeks Who Drink is expanding to The Last Frontier—if you find yourself in Anchorage on a Thursday night, look us up). And the second audio round was on God and religion in film.

Many teams were solid on the first round, with God Made Us acing it. Wedding, Neil Armstrong, and God Made Us all had double-digit scores in the audio round, and Neil Armstrong and God Made Us had perfect scores in the third round. All the teams scored between four and six points in round four and Wedding and Neil Armstrong had eights on the fifth round.

There were no perfect scores on round six, and one perfect score on round seven by Wedding. Scores were lower than usual on the random knowledge round with Rough Week getting the high score of nine. Thanks to everyone who joined us and come back next week for another Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz.
