Joe (Lagerhead)

Hi kids.  I am new to the Geeks scene but have been a long time listener, first time caller, or something like that.  I've only been in Denver since April of 2010 but I fricken love it out here.  After living in hot, sticky Orlando for the past 10 years, it feels awesome to not sweat through your clothes.  This is the place to be.  Much like Aspen, the beer flows like wine and the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano.  So when I found out about beer and pub quizzes...I felt a tingle in my dingle.  I just started being a quiz master in September of 2011 and it's been going great so far.

Join me at Mellow Mushroom in Centennial for a kick ass pub quiz!  I'll be hositng the quiz every Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.  Stop in for some delicious pizza, tasty beers and questions that will undoubtedly make you smarter than your friends.   Also, starting Feb 2, I'll be at Noonan's Tavern in Aurora on Thursday night at 8 pm.  This is a new venue so come by and say hi.  I'll buy you a beer (expires in 3 seconds).

Happy quizzing.

Tonight's quiz transcended us all to a land across the proverbial pond.  Yes, that would be Europe.  There were quite a few questions this night dealing with that continent that really isn't a continent at all.  I mean sort-of; you got some people who do the whole "Eurasia" thing because it's not separated by water.  I tend to agree....I say let's rescind their continent status!  If we can rob Pluto of planet-hood, we can do whatever we want.  Have you ever listened to Brian Reagan?  He does this bit about the other planets kicking out Pluto and in a wimpy voice, Pluto says "can I still orbit the sun?" Sure, knock yourself out! That's funny. Not sure why I've tangetted into a anti-European-continental-rights rant but this is what happens sometimes.  I get that diarrhea of the mind and shit just flows out!  Sick.

Hi, I'm Joe and I was your stand-in Quizmaster of the evening, filling in for Francie.  I must say that I am impressed with the Nicolo's establishment and wondered why I had not wandered in here in the past. Beer, pizza, sports....pretty much spank-bank material for me.  This place rocks!  And all you quizzlings were most gracious and awesome - I had a great time.

So yeah, back to Europe.  Our visual round was about composers and what country they were from - thank God they had the names by them, eh comrads!? Then you would have been F'd in the A with J.  I'm sure the last names alone helped you out; where else would a guy named "Saint-Saens" be from? And yeah, we dealt with France again with a question about Shia LaBeouf, which I believe translates into Douche of Beef.  Then we had a speed round concerning the mighty Danube River and all the countries it passes/touches.  Most of you at least knew that it was in eastern Europe but it sucks to be those people who thought it was in the middle east!  I got a few Pakistans, Irans, Iraqs, even a Dirka-Dirka Stan.  Ha!  Later we went beyond the pseudo-continent and stretched this bitch out globally.  We had a round on the Olympics, questions about the Pacific Ocean, Yakov Smirnoff, The League of Nations and New Zealand....we were all over the place.

My favorite round had to be Round 2, which was entitled "Yes, We're That Immature."  For those not there, it was a cut and paste of lyrics we all know but they were rearranged to say ridiculously funny things. Like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody's lyrics took the word "came" from somewhere in the song and put it right before the words "down my spine," and then it just repeated like 8 times over. Ha!  The most impressive one was from Conjunction Junction, where they managed to string together the words "Hooking up, dirty butt sex!" HAHA. That's awesome.  Somebody's got a lot of time on their hands but it was well worth it.

We had a great turnout tonight with 12 teams participating.  Rising to the top was Dancing For Shekels with an impressive 78 points to take home the gold. Finishing a gentleman's second was WYCKYD Sceptre with 69 points (giggety). We did have a 2-way tie for third and I think I got them prematurely excited. My previous Geeks gig had prizes for 1-3, so I was all ready to do a tie-breaker question for these two teams...but then I realized I got nothing for them and just shattered their hopes and dreams right there on the spot.  My bad, guys! But you did really well and I tip my hat to you, dear people.

Thanks for making me feel welcome!  I had a really good time and I hope to be back here sometime in the future.

Stay classy.
