Let's do some real talk:
Star Bar was my first quiz. I was but a budding quiz master, flung into the world of quizzing on sixth street, and you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. Let's talk about how Star Bar will always hold a special place in my heart, forever:
1. The Staff: From Jordan to Jacob (hope the hike is going amazingly) to Nate to Cody to Adam, the Star Bar staff is the most friendly, accomodating, and good looking bar staff in town. They treated me so well, and I hope you all tipped them accordingly.
2. The Quizzers: Thanks to Star Bar, I got to know a lot of people who have now become a part of my weekly, if not daily, life. I really appreciate each and every one of you, and for those of you who lost your quiz virginity with Star Bar (and me), I'd like to say: Thank you. I hope it wasn't very painful, and that you didn't bleed a lot.
3. Dance Party: I don't know how it happened exactly, but I know that one week, people got up and started dancing between rounds 7 and 8--thus, a tradition was born that was ours, uniquely and wholly. I'll never do it at another venue because it was born at Star Bar.
And here is the saddest dance party ever:
4. I can't pronouce anything. Ever. I've learned to own it, love it about myself, and just look for other ways to make fun of you guys (like tonight, when the "Silent P round" produced some of my favorite wrong answers ever: pstatements, pgallileo, pCIA)
Those are not at all the only reasons. I could talk about Lou Gehrig's disease y'all, or the night we got trampled by a wandering 80's party, or how the inside of Star Bar echos harder than Gol Gumbaz (LOOK IT UP), but I won't.
What I will talk about is how warm my heart was tonight when all the regulars showed up, but not only that: people from San Antonio (encouraged by some of my favorite QMs: Shane and Paulina) showed up, or when friends of friends came by--and everyone was dressed in black. They brought me flowers. Chelsea II provided a veil for me.
I mean, who can be sad when we all dance to the Cupid Shuffle for the last time, or sing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot loudly? This was, by far, my favorite quiz at Star Bar. And I'm glad it was the last one, because I don't know if I could live up to it again. I mean shit--a dude passed out in his chair right in front of us. How can we top that?!
You were my first, and yeah, the quiz tonight was difficult, but we had a great time.
And that's all that matters.
You guys surprised me by singing "Swing Low" really well! Look!:
You're ALL stars to me, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
So much QM love,
Samantha
