Retail slave by day, I play the role of smart-ass, quiz host in the evening. Lording my intelligence over the quiz peons gives me the strength I need to get through my days. This is about as close as I will get to utilizing my Theatre degree so I'm going to take advantage of this.

Like a scene from an old western, two teams clashed on a deserted street. I swear I even saw a tumbleweed roll across the bar. Our barkeep popped his head out once in awhile, but the duel was on. Thus begins the story of Thursday’s quiz at The Highliner.

In a match that went back and forth, The Hoe Downers, jumped out to an early lead. They flexed their alcoholic muscles in our round about Wine. In fact, every team tonight knew that there were 12 bottles of wine in a case. They have first hand experience no doubt. They lengthened their lead even further by playing a nearly perfect songs round. The theme was Daddy Issues. It was probably another example of first hand experience. At least all of our teams knew George Michael likely had a tumultuous relationship with more than one of his daddys.

That’s where things took a turn for the exciting. From round two on, Corporate Sponsor Here, stopped playing games. They cleaned house on the rounds about Song, Women and Natalie Portman’s crying tendencies. I learned that quoting the Song of Solomon in a bar will probably get me punched, so I’m off to test that theory next week.

When the dust settled, Corporate Sponsor Here had the title and a $20 gift certificate to The Highliner in the bag. While they didn’t win, my friends from Michigan, The Hoe Downers, still won second place a $10 gift certificate. Thus ends my first week and The Highliner and the most epic duel in Geeks Who Drink history. I’ll see you all next week!
