I'm 23. My hair is weird colors sometimes. I collect records, love anime, and for some reason I'm a huge NASCAR fan (go #9!). My first words were "Price is Right" and I was president of my high school quiz bowl team for a year, so now I like to read trivia to my fellow drunks. Knowing answers to silly questions is like, IN MY BLOOD MAAAAN.

On a much milder Thursday than the last, not as many contenders were drawn to Spirit in the gorgeous weather to go quizzin’. However, amongst the nine teams that did turn up, we had an incredibly competitive grapple for the top two prizes. All nine of the squads turned out some solid rounds and showed their individual strengths. The quiz was mashed to bits, with an audio Round 2 on Mashups (aced by champs Hot Adult Contmeporaries with a jokered 12 point showing) and a Before & After Round 6 which mashed up U.S. historical figures with more modern references (perfect 8’s notched in that round by Hot AC and 5th place It’s My Last Day).

 

As sure as the Bristol Scale’s got me spending a tough day on the pot, it was the squad of my quizmaster colleagues Hot Adult Contemporaries who not only ran away with the very same team name I used to use at Shopper’s Café in Waltham on Thursdays, but also today’s victory by a solid nine points over runners-up Covalent Bondage. Their sister team, Ionic Bondage, had a rough day in 6th. Maybe if they scored lower on the Bristol, their talent would have been less stiff, and more easily spreadable between the two teams. Poop jokes are fun.

 

To be frank, I used to play loads of GWD pub quizzes before I began quizmastering my own. From that perspective, I know how important it is to feel smarter than a quizmaster. For a team of QM’s to dominate one of my quizzes means the Spirit Bar quizzee ranks have got to step it up! I’ll bring 8 rounds of sweet, sweet quiz next Thursday, and you bring your ass in. Should they show up again, give yourself a shot to beat ‘em! Heck, you could at least beat The Tank, the resilient regulars who seem to be in a rut (tied for last this week! Whaaa?!?!?). Easy peasy, clear shot at a girft certificate.
