By day I am a mild mannered Marketing Professional, by night I'm a Quizmaster extrodinaire! 

The itch to host came after a couple years of playing Quiz. I had modest beginnings in Denver with four different venues, now I'm in Chicago hoping to be part of the GWD Revolution.

It was great to see all the new faces at Dad & Dudes this week as well as all of the regulars.  With all the new people comes fierce competition but one of our regulars, NO NAMES, managed to take 1st place again. 

 

Let’s dive right in.

 

Our first round was all about four player games.  Despite what most people think, Jamaica isn’t the only ‘tropical’ nation to participate in the Winter Olympics.  There actually are 23 other countries that have sent teams to the Winter Olympics, Senegal actually has participated in the most with five where as Jamaica has only participated in three.  Turns out they aren’t as amazing at the four-man bobsled as the movie Cool Runnings portrays.  Average score for round 1 was 5.76

 

We had an impressive showing for the first audio round with five different teams jokering.  Based on previous quizzes I would advise against this, however, Dad & Dudes quizzers know their pop music…regardless of how terrible it is.  Little known fact, Lionel Richie is to the Arab world as David Hasselhoff is to Germany.  Turns out any time he performs in the Middle East people go gaga over him.  He’s good…but not that good.

 

I expected a few perfect scores for round three, but not from seven of the teams.  Damn.  JP, had the low score this round with a 4, which I think was just not trying at all.  You left half of your score sheet blank, it’s like you were trying to repress some childhood memories and refused to acknowledge the existence of the characters from Winnie the Pooh.  Average score here was 7.44….which was dragged down by JP.

 

I remember when the Nimbus 2000 first came available for sale years ago.  The comments on Amazon were hilarious. "I'm 32 and enjoy riding the broom as much as my 12 yr old and 7 year old," wrote one satisfied customer. I bet. The vibrating broomstick ended up being recalled for ‘safety’reasons.  HA.  Great way to cover up for basically selling a sex toy to kids. Round 4 also came with the lowest average of all rounds with just over a 3 including a big ol’ goose egg from THAT’S PRETTY NEAT.

 

THAT’S PRETTY NEAT did manage to get a 2 on round 5 while JP had the zero for this round.  Frankly, aren’t all zombie movies the same and predictable?  Usually some apocalyptic event happens, a small group of people survive only to find out all of the other people are zombies/mutants/something else and then the survivors usually save the world or escape.  If you’re going to make a zombie movie at least spice it up with zombie Nazis or something like that.  Round 5 hurt, the average score here was 3.11.

 

Snatch…that’s all I have to say for Round 6.  Take some time to Google that, it’s intense.  Make sure you have your  ‘omg I’m at work and can’t have random porn pop up in Google image search’ filter turned on.  The current world record for Snatch weightlifting is 472lbs.  If clean and jerk is your sort of thing then 586lbs is the mark to beat.  Average score here was 5.5

 

I must watch too much Rick Steve’s on PBS or something because within the first few words on each of the Round 7 clips I knew the answer or had a pretty good idea.  As long as you are good with geography you could have mastered this round.  That said, UNICORNS DRINKING BEER and BULL IN A CHINA SHOP must know their stuff as they were the only teams to score higher than 4 on this round.  Average score was 2.1

And this brings us to Round 8, traditionally our strongest showing each week.  Only three teams hadn’t used their joker at this point so it was a pretty even playing field.  Overall a pretty good round, not too many wrong answers here.
