It must be something with the cold weather but we've had a lot more smiling faces here at quiz lately! Maybe all the 'oo-ooo-oooh, Honey' questions?  This week we had 14 teams playing, and like other times when we've had 14-16 teams nearly the entire place is filled with quizzers.  It's like one giant happy quiz family.  Everyone had pep in their step and scored relatively high.  There was even a pertty close battle for first.

Everyone was so focused this week on winning, damn.  I loved every minute of it!  I'm personally proud of Mark from  MY TIP IS BIGGER THAN YOURS for helping his team do pretty well considering there wasn't any rounds on his specialty, animals.

Perhaps the most surprising round of the night was Round 3 where you had to say whether the headline was 'real' or 'onion.'  As messed up as a person as Jerry Sandusky is I'm a little bit shocked that more than one team actually thought the headline: Jerry Sandusky says, "They can never take away my memories," was real. Really? Granted, some of the headlines were out there, but that's jsut over the top I suppose.  Kudos to GOOD JOB, BABE for being the only team with a perfect score on that round. 

The visual round gave most of you trouble this week. With the average dropping to just a lowly 3 points I'm going to guess that a chunk of you don't understand venn diagrams? Here's the dictionary definition:

• a graph that employs closed curves and especially circles to represent logical relations between and operations on sets and the terms of propositions by the inclusion, exclusion, or intersection of the curves.

Let that knowledge soak in, maybe it'll be useful for you at a later date.

As usual, we had a comeback of sorts in Round 8.  Several near perfect teams and only two teams who scored in single digits.  Numerous positions changed due to this round.  Congrats to the top three teams of the night.  In order,  GOOD JOB, BABE, I'M NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO BE HERE, and IT'S MIKE, NOT MICHAEL took the top three spots.  You guys rock, and if Mike and the crew from GOOD JOB, BABE come back week after week you all better put on your smarty pants before quiz.  As you can see with their score of 85, they're pretty good at this quiz stuff.

Chemical names and me just don't mix.  No matter how many times I check the pronunciation I have a tough time with them.  I should just have Siri read some of those words for me.  When I first looked at 'acetylsalicylic' on question four in round six earlier in the day I was like 'ummmm,'  I had it figured out but missed it at quiz until Sarah corrected my pronunciation.  Thank you Sarah for that.  I apologize to everyone who came to quiz and had to suffer through a few mis-pronounced words.

It's ok though, quiz this week was awesome!  Not only did we have a tight race and a lot of teams, but we even had a tie for 1st place!  It came down to a chug off between Bryan of BEEF TITS and Kaitlin of DUTCH RUDDERS. (see the video here)   Kaitlin won in part because she started drinking as she lifted the beer of the bar.  Had Bryan done that method too maybe we would have had a tie.  Who knows.  You guys are awesome and congratulations to you both!

Quiz this week was impressive.  Scores for all rounds averaged pretty high except on round 6 which was the botany round.  Just about everyone had a perfect score on our visual round this week. I was a little bit shocked when we had people missing the question about the South Park Casa Bonita episode.  You live in Colorado and that episode is something that just about everyone knows about regardless if you watch the show or not. 

Regarding the South Africa Marikana mine, it does in fact produce platinum, check it out here.  While it's not at all shocking that just about everyone put 'gold' as the answer I was a little puzzled as to how one team considered diamonds a precious metal.  I'm looking at you CORY.

We had a celebrity, albeit a small one, here at quiz tonight.  The ladies of WE LOVE ERIC DECKER were on the Price Is Right last June.  It may not be as glamorous as when Bob Barker was the host, but it's still the price is right and she still won some awesome prizes AND she got to spin the wheel for a chance at the showcase showdown. Therefore she's famous...sorta...kinda.

Quiz this week was brought to you by the letter F, for 'F@*$ this ridiculous round 7,' which is what I'm sure what most of you were thinking.  Only BEEF TITS and  MALK FORTIFIED WITH VITAMIN R scored any points on this round, and even their scores were pretty terrible.  Everyone seemed to only be able to make out ' I hate your ass face' for each question.  I ended up going home and watching Waiting for Guffman and then turning it off because of how terrible the movie is.  Damn you Christopher Guest.

We had a late comeback of sorts by the DUTCH RUDDERS and BEEF TITS who ended up with 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  It came down to Dutch Rudders flat out domination on Round 8 which gave them the lead over Beef Tits.
