Thursday Nights at the Greenhouse
Adam (Cowabunga Kiefer)

I am a 23-year-old college graduate who has been dropped in the real world.

My day job is working at a restaurant 40 hrs a week, and my laundry day is on Sundays.

I enjoy Diet Coke and the Ninja Turtles. I enjoy watching How I Met Your Mother (even own a ducky tie), The Simpsons, and classic cartoons such as Scooby Doo, Johnny Bravo, and Hey Arnold!

I drive a lame Saturn, but my license plate reads CWABNGA.

I enjoy reading Harry Potter and Calvin and Hobbes.

Here's one of my favorite quotes:

Helen: Wait a second, you got Crazy Steve to quit?!?
Josh: You hired a guy named Crazy Steve??

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me (although you probably won't. Just come to a trivia night and I'll talk about myself in person.

Cowabunga!!!

Another great week at the Greenhouse. Of course once I walked out my door it started to rain, so that seemed to be the one "gear-grinding" moment of the night.....especially when it stops as soon as I left the bar. We had a great turnout of 10 teams tonight, so here's how it went down:

R1: Every answer rhymed with the word "irk." Sorry to say that twerk was not an answer, because I know how many of you were so moved by Miley's moves that you'll never forget the term.

R2: This round brought to you by the number 5. Sometimes the word five was in the title of the song, and sometimes the artist. I felt prideful and foolish at the same time that I knew the band F5VE and their one-hit wonder "When the Lights Go Out." My sisters listened to pretty much every boy band of the 90s, so I had no choice to listen....but like I said, I'm somewhat prideful I knew that one.

R3: 50/50 round choosing which came first. MDMA vs. LSD fooled EVERYONE (by about 26 years), the Walkman came before "Thriller," and the Crips came before the Bloods. *RepreSENT!*

R4: A round on foreign films. Not too bad considering we had to remember Life is Beautiful and Amelie were somewhat iconic for the time.

R5: Looking into some crazy eyes, and naming the movie. Drag Me To Hell was a struggle for most, but at least Lord of the Rings prevailed for all! :P

R6: A round on supermarkets and brooms. I remember we had an Albertson's in Nashville that was down the street from me, but they never lasted long. It had nothing to do with the fact they got rid of self-checkout. (I honestly thought it was an independent grocer)

R7: I play a clip, you answer the question. The voice for Romero's Dawn of the Dead trailer will always be the creepiest voice to ever give you chills. Plus, a shout out to How I Met Your Mother (which ends on Monday, so now would be the time to catch up all the way :P). That's why the title to this blog is a Ted Mosby quote.....one of many for sure!

R8: Random-Ass Knowledge including volcano types, cartoon character voices, punk rock frontman/baseball player names, DeLorean, Admiral Ackbar, and thunderstorms.

Quite a few newer teams tonight which is always good to see. However, our regular Team Asia swooped in with the win after literally battling for the gold. First place was awarded to team WA State Wins By A Mudslide with 77 points. In second with 75 points was a newer team Clueless in Nashville. Tonight was even more special because we ran out f $15 prizes, so the winners received $20 and 2nd place got the usual $10. Awesome!

Things are going well with me. I'm just waiting to hear any financial information from most of the schools. We'll see all of you next week. Drive safe out there! (I hope you didn't read this while you were driving...that's just discouraging) Cowabunga!!!

Movie Enthusiast, Self Proclaimed Comic, Music Venue Junkie, Part Time Geek and More.

My name's Micah V Slater and I'm here to host the quizzes and bring smiles to your beautiful faces. I'm 23 years old and a native to the greater Nashville area. I frequent local pubs, The Belcourt Theater, fine dining establishments and I LOVE MY JOB!

"Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes"

Another great night for a quiz! I enjoyed all the teams who came out, old and new and the weather was crazy beautiful. I’m sure I’m not the only one grateful that the greenhouse is warming up with the nice weather. More importantly, I was thrilled people weren’t too concerned with the basketball tournament going on. Ten teams came out and we had to do the unthinkable, split a wang in half…OUCH!!! Our regulars brought quests and their table was so large, they split up and it only made the night more competitive. Bantering across the bar is always fun, especially when it’s not geared towards your humble quizmaster for mistakenly playing your audio rounds out of order, what a newb thing to do. Anyway, here’s how it all went down.

R1: Thanks, I guess? A word was described with 2 totally opposite definitions and they had to come up with the “contranym.” Way harder than anyone thought. Words like seed, dust, bolt and strike really chocked people up.

R2: Human Cent-ipod. Better yet, let’s not talk about this round too much since a certain someone played them out of order. But, Weezer, Zeppelin and Timberlake all made appearances.

R3: All’s Well That Ends. I gave a plot summary and the teams had to tell me if it was the end of a Shakespeare tragedy or the end of a famous sitcom. Yes, Seinfeld failed to follow The Good Samaritan Law and Kimmy Gibler was more annoying than usual in a light-up prom dress. And, blah blah blah something about Bill Shakespeare.

R4: Questions all about hats, bats and the very average/predictable Major League film. We were reminded the Arby’s spent 44k on Pharrell’s ugly hat.

R5: This visual round consisted of comedic relief characters from tv shows. They were kinda tricky and I’m surprised so many people got The O.C. correct.

R6: Super Classy Questions about FL. Jacksonville has twice the population of Miami and Disney dropped the name MGM. Adam and I would both agree that Disney’s Hollywood Studios doesn't roll of the tongue as well as MGM.

R7: Slick Willie, my 3rd cousin twice removed described sex scenes in different films and his commentary was ohh so interesting. And yes, Capote nailed Cousin Vinny’s girlfriend and collapsed on her.

R8: Random-Ass Knowledge. Who knew the mafia contributed to 7% of Italy’s GDP? Or that Stinky Socks and Baby Wipes are Jelly Belly Bean-boozled flavors?

That wraps up the quiz for this week. I had a great time filling in as always. Make sure to comeback and Adam should be over his usual duties this upcoming week. Congrats to NCAA Wang Madness for taking home the top prize. We had a tie for 2nd place with Leftover Wang  and Where did I park my fucking Plane? So, once again movie knowledge is power. Congrats to Plane for knowing what year the original Friday the 13th came out.

Dang, of course the weather begins to creep back into coldness. Before you know it we'll be soaking in humidity, so I guess try to seize the moment! A great turnout tonight, even with an anonymous party going on outside. The Greenhouse seemed more crowded in the parking lot since they're getting ready for St. Patty's day weekend. A big blow out it will be. No, they didn't ask me to do trivia this weekend :( whatever, who cares about Irish history and folktales. How St. Patrick got rid of the snakes in Ireland (I know this stuff!) Anywhere, here's tonight's stuff:

R1: All answers could be jumbled around from the word(s) MALAYSIA AIRLINES. Too soon? Nah!

R2: Harry Potter covers of pop songs. They were.....pretty awful. I enjoy being an HP fan, but it's antics like that that really get my head shaking in despair.

R3: Most pirated movies of 2013....every team did awesome! Our highest score was from one team with 3 WHOLE POINTS! Everyone kept guessing Oscar nominees for this year....yeah, not the best strategy.

R4: A round on nails and stuff. U.S. nails categorized into pennies was interesting (how many you can get for the cost of one penny).

R5: I haven't gotten so many stares at Kinko's in all my life. And I was there with pages and pages of random music! The round was album covers bombarded with drawings of penisis. It felt like watching Superbad all over again :P

R6: Chili, Chiles, and Chile. Chile was always a place I wanted to visit. The one place in the world with extreme climate changes on both ends, plus beautiful views. Unfortunately, it was the Chilean knowledge that most people failed at (which I don't blame them)

R7: Female comedians. Joan Rivers was a little hard to figure out...especially since she said 75-year-old woman....that can't be right!

R8: Random knowledge including whiskeys, Disney, RFK assassin, Chicago Bulls, and the Gilligan's Island theme song.

I was happy to see results in the 16-point rounds, but it was steady all around. Not much changed in the standings from the half and the finale. So anyway, our first place team with 74 points was team Dingle Dongle (that's 2 weeks in a row...talk about a lucky name!) In second place with 71 points Wang's World! Wang's World! Party Time! Excellent! (badadooda badadooda badadooda bwiiiiing!) Sorry to see some regular teams struggle, but at least you were still above water!

Micah will be around next week for you, while I'll be playing some 'Singin' In The Rain' (hence the title). He'll take great care of you guys and keep you entertained with awesome music and interesting film history. Until I see you all again, have a safe St. Patrick's Day and tip the bartenders well! Be responsible and smart! (for both concerns) Cowabunga!!!!
