Allow me to wax poetic for a moment or seven. Some things make total sense. Some don't make any sense. Being able to discern the difference between the two, and to understand the logic behind why that is the case, provides one with an immense superpower. Like, Avengers-worthy.

Understanding when E comes before I, and fuck C because it should stop sticking its nose into places it doesn't belong, was a superpower tonight at quiz. As was having an uncanny understanding of mass transit stops on the east coast. Know what wasn't helpful? A topographic knowledge of the Blue Ridge mountains. 

Come the end of the night, some teams were smarter than others. Specifically, they were Uno Percento, A Ginger and a Jew Walk Into a Bar, andWigmen. Congratulations, you smartasses.

This is quizmaster Colin taking over the blogosphere normally home to Quizmaster Brendan. Only just last night I also took over your quiz as a special guest quizmaster during Brendan’s absence. I am not completely sure what took him away from quiz, but if I had to guess I would say it is camping with Jeff. Could be a lucky guess or just something I heard from the rumor mill. It was a lot of fun hosting at Rock Bottom and I can’t wait to visit again, perhaps as a quizzer. Now that is taken care of let us move on to quiz!

The highlight of the quiz for many was the shake weight challenge which saw the contestants trying to get the shake weight counter as high as possible in 30 seconds. Once everyone was raw and spent we finally had a winner. A big congrats to Tim who had the highest count with a solid 178 shake count. Give yourself a pat on the back if you can still move your arms. Of course this wouldn’t be a post quiz wrap up if we didn’t discuss just how Tim was able to put up such solid numbers. For more lets go to the screen shots from his remarkable performance.

As you can see he has the stance of a champion. Arms in front and his hands firmly gripping the center. His short, but still effective strokes adding to the count and using limited energy. Tim you said it was your first time, but I have to say you seemed like a natural. Congrats my friend. If there was a trophy I think it is safe to say you earned it. Sadly, instead of a trophy you had to live with the free beer. Hopefully it tasted like victory because that is what brought it to you.

While Tim was the one to walk away from the shake weight with a win others were also great sports and tried their luck. Pictures of their struggle can be found in the pictures in the upper left corner of this very blog post. Find yourself and see what you could do next time to get that number up and free beer in your hand.

Sure the shake weight was fun, but what was equally fantastic was the actual pub quiz! Early rounds proved to be a breeze for most teams with the trouble starting up in the third round where people proved they don't spend as much time on reddit as many would believe. So for those who didn’t do well on the round give yourself a break. Unless you have reddit open on your computer right now in which case you need to study more. Followed by round three there was also a noticeably struggle with round 7. Looks like you all need to practice celebrity ID by voice never know when it might come in handy.

Finally after the dust settled and a shake weight tie breaker for third place we had our top three. They are this week’s champions of quiz and for a whole week are basically better than the seven original sins. Because as we all know the best way to win at quiz is to sell your soul to the devil. Or is that how you become a quizmaster?

Kitten packing heat!

Today at the day job I was in a meeting with my manager and our team's vice president. It was a relatively serious meeting / working session on a PowerPoint presentation for a meeting we have on Friday. I was driving, and at one point my vp said to make it more visual so I put a sticky note on a slide that said "I like pictures." It was a mental note for me to come back and add pictures in later.

I was asked why I wrote it that way, and all that came to my mind was "I like turtles." So I said it. How the hell do I have a job? I think I just demonstrated to the people responsible for my continued employment that my brain works the same as a young kid in zombie facepaint. Bless 'em, both my manager and vp laughed and I wound up introducing them to the video.

On the plus side, should they ever stop finding my act cute, I've got this gig to fall back on. I can pay rent in free beers, right? Hopefully all of tonight's winners aren't concerned with paying rent, but in the event one or more of you was, after tonight you've got more free beers to barter with. Congratulations to the lucky victors:
