Eight teams of Geeks gathered last night at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square for the weekly Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz where they faced off on questions on banks, Olympics, current events, and much more.
But before I go any further, has Sacha Baron Cohen really jumped the shark? We had a round where country names were replaced with the fictional country Wadiya from his latest movie The Dictator and not a single one of my Geeks knew the reference. Anyways, moving on.
The quiz was won by Tater Fight II: The Mashening with a score of 81 points. Behind them was Later Taters, then Jenna Jameson is Shtupping For Romney in third place. The Telepresidents finished in fourth, ahead of Bill Murray in a Clown Suit and Geisterbahnen. Money $hotzzz and Menage-a-trois rounded out the standings.
The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:
Round 1 (Eight Quick Questions on Banks) average – 6.13
Round 2 (Fat Bottomed Girls: The Movie) average – 11.5 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (The Obligatory Olympic Medals Round) average – 4.88
Round 4 (Recently in Stuff: Chicken-Free Edition) average – 6
Round 5 (The Geek 500) average – 2.5
Round 6 (How To Time-Travel Without Killing Yourself) average – 4.88
Round 7 (Where in the World are Matt and Bob?) average – 6.13
Round 8 (Randos) average – 9.75 (out of 16 points)
The first round had eight questions on all kinds of banks, from financial institutions to characters with the last name Banks. The audio round had clips from songs whose name they shared with a movie. Round three was a speed round requiring the Geeks to identify the countries with the most Olympic medals.
Recently in stuff was a current events round and the visual round showed images of cars from both the big and little screen and the Geeks had to identify the film or TV show. Round six was a survival guide across the space-time continuum round and the second audio round included clips of Matt Lauer and Bob Costas narrating the Olympics opening ceremony and required the Geeks to identify the country they were talking about.
The two taters teams aced the first round. Interestingly, the scores on the second round were 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 (not in that order). I’m not making that up. Jenna Jameson and the Telepresidents got a high score of six on the third round and they were also the only two teams to ace round four.
The visual round was a challenge—three teams only got one point and the high score was a five. Round six saw sixes and sevens from the top five teams and Tater Fight and Bill Murray aced the second audio round. Tater Fight also had the high score of 14 on the random knowledge round. Thanks to everyone who came out for the quiz last night and see you all next week for another Geeks Who Drink pub quiz!
