With no baseball on TV (Home Run Derby doesn’t count), the Geeks Who Drink Pub Quiz at Tommy Doyle’s filled the void with a whole round dedicated to strange sports traditions—like that painful, fingernails-on-a-chalkboard song Sweet Caroline that gets played at every Sox game, or how to earn yourself a yellow card in a soccer match.

We also had rounds on super heroes, historic events, shitty literature, and much more.

And when all the answer sheets were submitted and the scores tallied, it was Taters Come Alive! who finished on top with 77 points. Frencti’s Last Stand came in second, followed by Channing Tater Tots and Steve Holt! Fifth went to This Just In: Rich White People Support Rich White Candidates, then WWJD 4 A Klondike Bar and The Tolkien Heads who tied for sixth. Narwhals: Jedi of the Sea placed eighth, ahead of Small & Mighty (?) and Hey Vern, I Thought Ernest Died A While Ago. Better Late Than Never, The Biggs Hosons, and Panda Bears rounded out the standings.

The breakdown of all the rounds is as follows:

Round 1 (Fifteen Yards For Excessive Celebration) average – 5.46
Round 2 (Be A Rock Star In Just Three Chords) average – 10.69 (out of 16 points)
Round 3 (Say When: Super Heroes) average – 3.69
Round 4 (Rangefinder History: Presidential Edition) average – 6.54 (out of 16 points)
Round 5 (It’s Raining Meh) average – 4.31
Round 6 (Shit Lit) average – 5.54
Round 7 (Finish The Line) average – 4
Round 8 (Randos) average – 8.92 (out of 16 points)

The first round was on strange sports traditions while the audio round was on songs that went D-A-G. Super heroes had me listing clues for eight super heroes and the Geeks had to guess the right one. Don’t know where this one came from but one team answered Carmen Sandiego on one of the questions.

On the fourth round, I listed four events that happened in the same year and the Geeks could either respond with the name of the sitting president that year, or the actual year itself for double the points. The visual round showed eight overweight actors and required the Geeks to match them to the pictures of their more fit selves. Shit lit was on shitty literature and finish the line was simply that—finish the line of the well-known song lyric.

All but two teams scored in double digits on the second round, with Taters Come Alive leading the way with 15 points. Scores were not as impressive in the third round. There was one perfect score on round five (Frencti’s) and one on round six (Tolkien). There were some good scores on the random knowledge round as half the teams scored 10 or more points.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the quiz last night. Please note, next week is the Arrested Development themed quiz. It's going to be awesome and you'll want to be there.
