Kevin (Max Power)

Kevin lives in Somerville and splits his time learning engineering and working. When not doing either of those, he's devoting his time to brewing beer, and listening to Bowie. He's also an ordained minister (it's amazing what you can do for free on the interwebs). And yes, that's Kevin chilling with Tommy Wiseau, director of the wonderful film The Room (nbd).

As my predecessor Tom once noted in this very blog, it always seems to rain on Wednesday. But that didn’t stop you guys from coming out in full force last night. Sixteen teams made it to the quiz last night. That’s just two teams shy of Phoenix Landing’s record. So bring your friends next week and then we’ll destroy the record.

A bunch of you claimed it was a hard quiz last night. I guess scores were low considering three rounds were worth 16 points. Well here’s how your scores broke down:

Round 1 (Eight Quick Geography Questions You Should Just Know) average 5.5

Round 2 (Wanna Get High?) average 7.9

Round 3 (Sooner or Later: Movies That Suck Balls) average 6.8

Round 4 (All My X’s) average 5.3

Round 5 (Athletic Supporters) average 6.4

Round 6 (Your Magic Missile Is Showing) average 4.7

Round 7 (It Stinks!) average 5.3

Round 8 (Random Knowledge) average 10.2

(Averages are pre-joker scores)

We kicked things off with a geography round that stumped more than a couple of you. But there were at least a few perfect scores, too. Statistically speaking, you guys did much worse on round 2. Only 5 teams got more than half of the round correct! That’s nut’s people. But you made up for it on round 3 by clearly knowing the difference between Striptease and Showgirls. Your mothers must be proud.

Then things got a bit nerdier for round 4. You had questions about X-men, math, and the Greek alphabet sprung on you. But it was nowhere as nerdy as round 6. That round separated the nerds from the jocks. Or at least from the lesser nerds. Unless you knew your Dungeons and Dragons (most of you did) and your Warhammer 40k (most of you did not), you were SOL on that round. But round 7 was certainly the best of the night (my opinions are fact), as it featured audio clips from the TV show the Critic. If you don’t know this show, just go watch it. Now.

In the end, there can only be one winner, and it was Matt’s Here from Washington. Taking second place was Mike Invernale’s My Bitch, and third place went to Risky Quizness. See you all next week!
