Good morning, Geeks. It’s been a rough couple of days here in Colorado, with a scene that is all too familiar. I’m not going to sit here and gasbag about what needs to be done and who should share the blame. You probably know all that and a pub quiz website isn’t the place. However, I will propose something: it takes a pretty geeky (AKA, nerdy, dorky, etc.) person to go to a midnight showing of a Batman movie. They are we. We are they. I propose that moving forward, July 20th should not only be a day of remembrance, but also a day of doing something nerdy with friends and family. Whether it be having a Batman movie marathon, or playing Magic: The Gathering, or playing Star Wars Kinect all day, building model trains, creating sexy girls with your computer (That’s the plot of Weird Science, right?). Whatever. Just be a geek to your heart’s delight. Because there are those who don’t get to do that anymore.
Also, I propose that anyone who still thinks it should be legal to purchase assault rifles and massive amounts of ammunition should go fuck themselves.
Sorry, I had to get that one in there. Now on to lighter fare…
We had a good crowd at the Monk last night. No Penetration w/o Proper Training had themselves a hell of a quiz, finishing with 80 points and first place. Finishing in a not very close second was We <3 Beer.
Here’s some quiz highlights:
The first round was Recently In Stuff and during it, we learned that Desmond Tutu was the guest of honor at the first birthday party of South Sudan. Awww! Like any one year-old, every gathered around taking pictures as it grabbed fistfuls of cake and shoved it in its mouth. Then South Sudan took a nap before presents could be opened.
Round three had you guessing which female celebrity has turned 30 or not. Remember ladies, once you pass the age of 30, it’s all over. Don’t blame me. Blame science!
The sixth round was all about Scream (the movies), Queen (the band), and Scream Queens (the shrieking actresses). Queen named their fourth and fifth albums after Marx Brothers movies. Sadly, one of those albums is NOT Duck Soup. Sorry, We <3 Beer.
The round seven audio featured the most radically kickin’ commercials for junk food from the nineties. It was the kind of round that made you want to strap on your rollerblades, tip your shades, and speed off in a flash of cool and neon.
And in round eight we learned that James Spader makes some fucked up movies.
That does it, folks. We’ll see you next week!
