The gauntlet was thrown this week with the ever present rivalry with that other Geeks location at Canyon’s Crown finally spilling over into written and verbal violence on par with snap fighting in West Side Story at best and the goofy knife fighting from Michael Jackson’s Beat It at worst. In this epic escalation of the age old rivalry each venue challenged the other to come up with the best team names to mock either the rival Quizmaster or location. Many teams stepped up to this challenge with such gems as Tom’s Thumb Up His Bum, Uncle Tom’s Cabin for Special Munchkins, I Don’t Know Who Tom is, Nor Do I Care, Tom’s Dick is Harry, Tom is a Tiny Gutter Slut, and Canyon’s Frown. Well done gang, you stepped up to the challenge to take the prize. There can be only one after all and the Bumsted’s crowd is sure to catch the Quickening.
Outside of our Highlander-like battle, we also had a quiz:
Round 1 was kind of rough with 10 word song summaries. We gave you summaries of song lyrics and a goodly portion of you gave us wrong answers.
Things looked up in round 2 with some perfect scores and a bunch of jokers on songs that have no vowels but ‘E.’
A lot of teams found their stride in round 3 H or N in which answers began with an H or an N and Nickelback sullied what would be an otherwise noble round.
Round 4 found a lot of teams keeping their momentum in a round about Moms with questions ranging from Motherloving to Macedonian nuns.
Round 5 was the visual round testing your drunken memory where you had to remember what was on the sheet before it was snatched away. The verdict? You guys either weren’t drunk enough or you have great beer memory. Good job!
Round 6 sizzled with questions about Knights and Nights with nights from the Roxbury and Night Court to Knight Riders and Knights of the Old Republic.
Round 7 found a drop in scores just like the drop in profitability of the actors featured in the audio clips. It isn’t surprising that you didn’t recognize these people, the box office doesn’t either.
Random knowledge in round 8 did not help too many teams and only a handful of teams jokered. It was Round 2 that ruled them all tonight.
When the dust settled We Like Our Beer Like We Like Our Violence-Domestic took the number 1 spot while Tom’s Thumb Up His Bum came in a fairly close second. And our second place team also snagged the email bonus prize---a lovely cross-stich pattern that says "Shut the &@#$ up." Not Grandma approved. Only two teams took the top spot but all of you are winners in life, quiz and not being as short as Tom.***
Congrats again to everyone and see you next week!
**We still love you Tom. Just not more than our venue. <3
