America's Favorite Pastime For A NapThe Babe With The Power
As you all well know by now, I don't sportsball. It's nothing against your favorite team or your favorite type of sportsball. I generally don't discriminate in that I uniformally don't watch any. If I HAVE to sit through one, though, I'd pick futbol or ice hockey not because I particularly care more about them but because they don't mess around with the clock. The time you have is the time you have and there's not a thousand stops of the clock, just some here and there. The opposite of that, though, are games that drag my interest completely to a halt. Golf is one of them. As the quote often misattributed to Mark Twain goes, golf is a good walk spoiled.
The champion of boredom inducement for me, though, is baseball. Ye gods! I get the attraction even less than other sports. I can understand the interest in basketball or tennis with their fast pace (even if it is just Super Breakout on a court), but baseball? Even as a kid when I couldn't get out of P.E. and had to suffer through whatever game we were forced to play, baseball was THE most boring. I always hoped for getting put in the outfield because then I could at least tune out and think about something more interesting since none of those kids ever really hit the ball far out enough for me to have to pay attention. It is a special kind of boring when you feel like falling asleep WHILE participating in a sport.
The fact that there's always some celebrity looking to sing "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" during a baseball game is also baffling. I don't know if all those people are actually baseball fans or if they just want the attention of the already riveted attendees to give them attention, but so many times it just goes SO bad! Case in point was all the terrible singers of R7. Wow, were they terrible! At least, as I said Thursday night, I give points to David Cross just right out saying, "That was awful! Thank you very much. So Sorry." You should be sorry, everyone involved with that round should be so so sorry. Haha!
Remember to add song suggestions to the Spotify playlist I created for Southtown 101! There's at least 3 followers so far, so get on that. It's lonely! I'll play songs I pick out during the second half of quiz. Here's the link again or you can search for it as SouthtownSuggestions. Otherwise you're stuck with just the random stuff I play!
Also, are you following the Geeks Who Drink At Southtown 101 Facebook page? You get a link to the latest blog post and one free answer the day of quiz! Right there in your news feed! You can also be my tweety internet buddy @thebabewithpwr.

Once upon a time in 2009 I went in search of something fun to do to get me and my husband out of the house. The internet coughed up Geeks Who Drink and we were hooked. First Gallifreak got lured into hosting and then after nearly 5 years I've been cajoled and bamboozled into hosting, too. You can find me on the mic at Southtown 101 on Mondays AND Thursdays at 7PM and hanging out with Gallifreak while he hosts at Quarry Hofbrau and Mad Pecker Brewing Co!
