Bar Owners: The video below will give you a sense of what Geeks Who Drink is all about and why hiring us isn't just cool, but is a sound business decision.
Players: Read the FAQs below, if you still have questions feel free to contact us at info@geekswhodrink.com.
Who are Geeks Who Drink?
Geeks Who Drink are two geeks who drink and host pub quizzes throughout Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Washington and Virginia.
What is a Pub Quiz?
A pub quiz is like it says: A quiz game played in a pub. It's an Irish tradition, however, our goal is the same: to foster friendly competition, and promote social drinking in a relaxed environment.
How does it work?
The quiz consists of eight rounds of eight questions and is played in teams of up to six people. Questions are read aloud by the Quizmaster and teams write down the answers, turning them in to the quizmaster at the end of each round.
Geeks Who Drink quizzes are unique in that they include two rounds of audio questions. One is your basic "name that tune" round with a theme (like "songs about drinking"); the other features soundbites from movies, TV and current events. We also have a visual handout round with pictures of famous cartoon characters, criminals, animals, criminal animals, etc...

Does it cost anything to play?
No. Some quizzes charge an entry fee and put it towards a cash purse. Geeks Who Drink believes it's best when the thrill comes from winning alone.
What do I get out of it?
If you're a player, you can win anything from bar cash to free pints to bizarre prizes courtesy of our weekly Bonus Email Question. And we mean bizarre prizes. Your team can also revel in the Internet glory of having your photo posted on this here website.
If you're a bar owner you get a reliable crowd of customers on an otherwise slow night, drinking for a good two and a half hours. Most geeks have disposable income and believe us, they drink.
How long does the quiz take?
Just over two hours though on particularly crowded nights it can push nearly three.
If I'm a bar owner, how long will it take to build a crowd?
It varies between one to six months. Though we do a lot of marketing via the Internet, word of mouth is always the most effective tool and that takes time. Once the crowd is built, it's extremely consistent.
Isn't this just "trivia night?"
Hell no. The difference between a proper pub quiz and "trivia night" is roughly the difference between your mom's cooking and The Sizzler.
Most so-called "trivia nights" are structured in such a way as to render them indistinguishable from a dartboard or a foosball table. That is, something to enjoy if you like darts or foosball but otherwise totally forgettable. Generic questions, no interaction with the audience punctuated by ten-minute pauses between questions. Ask a question, play a few songs, ask a question, play a few songs. Boring, boring, boring.
Geeks Who Drink uses different media (soundbites, songs, printed handouts) theme rounds and creative genius to entertain, challenge and engage the crowd. Our quizmasters get to know the players and we glorify their heroics in the score report blog that's posted the day after the quiz. To the best of our knowledge, we're the only company that blogs every single quiz.
Even if a team doesn't win, the quiz is still fun. That's in part because our questions aren't cribbed from Trivial Pursuit or other hackneyed sources. Each round is custom crafted and fact checked by GWD staff. Plus, our questions are entirely unpredictable. We'll ask a round on the Douche Bags of History followed by a multiple choice round on Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson or Lisa Simpson?
Is the quiz hard?
We do our best to mix it up so the team that knows their pop culture might stumble on a round like "Country Music That Doesn't Suck." The team with the highest IQ might not win, but the most versatile will.
Hint for players: For best results, try and wrangle a team that's diverse in age, gender, and life experience. Most folks over 35 will be stumped on questions about the Nintendo Wii while most folks under 35 know little about the Reagan administration.
You guys call yourself geeks but you ask more questions on celebrities than science?
Yep. Geeks Who Drink rejects the idea that a single interest area or professional certification has a monopoly on Geekdom. If you can rattle off Wade Boggs's career batting stats, you're a sports geek. If you know all the tracks on J-Lo's last album you're a bad music geek. And so on…
The short of it is this: We think our questions should be funny and interesting. They should serve as conversation pieces and fodder for debate among friends.
To get a feel for our questions check out a sample round here.
Where can I play the quiz?
Please see our schedule.
Can I play more than one night a week, or is it the same quiz over and over again?
Yes, you can play every night. Each quiz is original so please, go nuts!
If I'm a bar owner, why should I hire you guys when I can just write questions myself?
It's a free country, but consider this: Writing 30 questions a week is fairly time consuming. Coming up with 65 questions each week, including two music rounds and a picture round that's all independently fact checked is… way more time consuming. Doing this while managing a bar is possible only if you're willing to postpone sleep indefinitely.
Most quizzes are written by people who have day jobs and it shows. Writing quizzes is our day job.
I'm interested in hosting a quiz at my bar, restaurant, private party, etc...
