I think that over the past two and a half years or so doing this amazing adventure every Tuesday night at the Slide, I have come to learn one thing and that is to never be surprised or mystified when people come together to drink. Some of us have been drinking for years, some of us are just getting into the scene. Some people are loud. Some people get quiet and distant. Some people get angry and most of us don't really remember the details.
I feel bad for a misunderstanding with an entire group last night. There are always better ways to deal with people than the way I deal with them at the bar. In my defense, at the bar you have hecklers and fools and fighters and, as a Quizmaster, I deal with these inconveniences the only way I can; forcefully- All of you know that I'm Loud and Proud and that makes it easy for me to do what I have to do to keep Geeks Who Drink Rolling Smoothly-
That being said, one team last night had a large group and were there for dinner on the patio. Not knowing the rules of 1 team 1 table, I felt it my duty to tell them what was about to take place and I told them, didn't ask them, told them they were going to have to give up their table. Aggressive, Assertive, and Unnecessary. Of course, I apologized and they stayed and played for a while, but I still would be re-missed if I didn't apologize once more and make it known that everyone who comes to Geeks is a valued customer and friend. I always want you to be happy when you leave the Rockslide-
With that said, There were some amazing times being had around the patio that didn't involve my overbearing quizmastering. Look at the photos of all the fun the geeks were having as the night rolled on! The camera didn't come out until later because of the previous story, but we made the most of the people still participating and we enjoyed having all of the precious ninjas on the patio.
One more thing: I want to say thank you and goodbye to a really good man: Reo Van Gilder has been one of the most helpful people I have known in the radio industry. He literally taught me everything that I do on the job when it comes to the tech side. Everybody at my small group of stations will feel a negative impact when he leaves this week, because Reo knew everything in and out. If my bosses couldn't figure it out, they went Reo. If I couldn't figure something out, Reo was the one I would call- I probably still will, but he has left an imprint on MBC and me and I want to thank him for all he does.
