My heart, she breaks. It was the last night of McGilvra's quiz! We had a bunch of regulars pack the tables to see me off. Thanks for that guys. Honest, it really does touch the slowly thumping core of my cynicism-crusted heart.

It was a competition worthy of our final night. Both Live & Learn and Big Love With A Magnum Glove made a serious run for the win, finishing just two points shy of first place. But in the end, it had to be Peaks and Vallies, the most consistent champions we've ever had, going out at the top of their game. Exactly the kind of storybook finish I would have asked to go out on.

I'm clearly just jealous. Brian looks so much better with a shaved head than I ever would. All that would do is call attention to how gigantic my head is. I look like a bobblehead. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find hats when your head is this big?

You know what I loved about last night? How close the scores were. It was a tough quiz, but that meant the margin between teams was even finer than usual.

A number of our old regulars who had been ball-bustingly busy these last few weeks were finally able to pull themselves free and come into quiz. Guys, you have no idea how much I missed you. Seriously, it was great to see all the familiar faces.

As I'm sure everybody noticed, the sound system started cutting out during round two. No microphone! No audio rounds! Fuck that (lack of) noise, the quiz must go on. I always carry a fistful of extra rounds, so we were good there. But no mic? In packed McGilvra's? What were we going to do?

Yell like a motherfucker, that's what. We gathered everyone onto one side of the bar, Brian the Beautifully Bald mixed me a continuous stream of hot toddies, and we soldiered on. Thanks to everyone for being awesome about shouting the quiz, I couldn't have asked for friendlier or more supportive crowd.

Brian's hot toddy recipe, for the curious: a generous shot of whiskey, enough hot water for a cup of tea, one spoonful of honey, a sprinkling of cloves, and a lemon slice. Hot toddy, we salute you.

What to say about last night? My hummus plate was awesome, we had new teams who want to come back, Brian was back, and we had visitors from a bunch of other Geeks quizzes! All of that is pretty cool. But was it as cool as the jackass round? That's tougher to figure out.

We had a special celebrity guest at quiz last night! The whole quiz got to wave at University of Washington President (soon to be NCAA President) Mark Emmert right as we were quizzing about brief presidential tenures. Talk about appropriate! That's one of the times I've been most pleased about our outdoor speakers. Guy's about to be making a couple million a year, we should have asked him to buy the house a round.

Alternately, I suppose he could have just bought the house.

So, I loved the Sequelitis round, if only because we got to talk about Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Note the proper subtitles! However, I also would have accepted Dirty Dancing: Patrick Swayze Is Dreamy or Star Trek V: Dramatic... Pauses. The Valley Girl round was also a success, if only because I got to say "Richard Tiffany Gere." On the other hand, you were all waaaay too amused when I said "dick head and clit" into the microphone. That might have something to do with the fact we've got that speaker that pumps the show out onto the street.

Are you guys ordering off of Gil's new menu? The special sheet with like five new entrees? I say give it a shot, he's trying some new stuff and everything I've had off of it has been excellent.
