There was no dance-off tonight but there were a ton of high scores. My Other Ride Is your Mom won the quiz and our hearts for a night, though we need to make it clear that there are only six players rolling through next week. It just makes other teams feel better. Here they are.

 

Turd Ferguson finished second. Team Science finished third and is totally cool, even though they sometimes think they aren't.

Check out the hardcore stare-down these two opponents are giving each other in the first pic. You'd think it was going to turn into a UFC fight but everyone hugged afterward. No, really. They did and it was awesome.

 

 

 

Team Pants won the dance-off, first place and a special spot in my heart. Happy Birthday Estner also danced like there was no tomorrow. Parliament of Owls blew my mind by answering questions in scientific nomenclature. Seriously, you are my heroes.

Glad to see all the Texas State Bobcats back after a long summer. You all brought the energy and we appreciate it. Big time.

It's always tough times when there are technically two answers to a question we ask. That was the case with the Kanye West song for the audio round, which technically could be a Daft Punk song since it was an instrumental version. All I can say is sorry. We ain't perfect.

The crowd tonight was more topsy-turvy than Mel Gibson. One minute the crowd was singing at the top of their lungs to The Darkness. The next minute there were people claiming we betrayed them by making a question tricky. Trust me, peeps. We don't spend our spare time hatching diabolical schemes to thwart your score, a la Snidely Whiplash, as we twist our moustaches and cackle like witches.

Should I be shocked that the two rounds the teams did best on were a "Real Housewives or Porn Star" round and a "Toy Story" round? Nahhhh.

My fellow Texas Lutheran Bulldogs, aka Texas Liquor Cabinet, came through in the clutch, winning second place as Lindsay dropped it like it was hot in a dance-off to Prince's "Pussy Control." Lindsay is on the left next to Kelly and Amy, totally rad girls in their own right.

 

There's no shame in taking third, We've Got this Thing and it's fucking Golden. We do need to do some other tie-breakers though. Not everyone is a great dancer and I want to make the field even.

 

We had two teams named 3 Amigos. Was the film on Comedy Central or something last night? Adam no likey being confused. Thanks for coming though!

These girls from A.A. said they suck but they certainly do not. The team name is A.A. by the way. I assume they aren't all alcoholics. If they are, the bar may not be the best place to come. I'm still glad they did. We will get through this addiction together or die trying!

The Kidz Bop round was hilarious, especially when we saw dude-bros dancing and raising the roof to Miley Cyrus. That will ALWAYS be funny.

I want to wish a happy birthday to Jimmy McCrae, one of our friends and a frequent quiz attendee. Thanks to his team for the cupcakes too! Delish.

I love the fact people want to take pictures with us, especially team members who are super cool. And yeah, it was hot as heck tonight, hence me sweating. It's Texas. Gotta deal with it.

 

We had a two-way tie for first place so we settled it like they would back in the Wild West...through a Justin Bieber dance-off. Team 'Merica pulled out all the moves, even doing a Flashdance routine. Amazing. It was good enough for a standing ovation and first place. The culprit is featured in the first picture below. Team Jimmy took second place and Donkey Punchers hit the competition hard on their way to third place.

The quiz turned out to be a pretty challenging one. Apparently people don't recognize mainstream songs that are covered by string quartets. Who knew? One of the best original Geeks Who Drink at The Tap Room, Kristen, is leaving us to go to Kansas. There was a huge party thrown in her honor at The Son of the Return of the Revenge of the Whedon-ites' table. By the way, I'd copyright that name before George Lucas uses it in his next Star Wars movie. You know he would. Anyway, we all will miss you, Kristen. My favorite team name tonight was Team Jacob: Because real men don't sparkle, which prompted me to say that real men also don't wear jean shorts. Alas, I still lean towards Team Jacob. Yep, I have thought about this before. Don't judge me. Here they are.

 

In fitting fashion, The Whedon-ites won first place in honor of the future Kansas-ite...Kansasian...Kansasparagus? I don't know what you call the citizens of that state. Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cats went crazy and won second place. Staff Infection were sick with it and took third. Nice.

I promise we will mix in some dance-offs soon. I feel like Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight. The night is always darkest before the dance-off but I promise you, the dance-off is coming.

This was the best quiz we have had all summer and that is all because of you. You guys and girls sang along to music, were very polite and engaged in the quiz, proving that San Marcos has some of the best teams around.

We learned a bitter truth tonight, that few people know Heath Ledger's films as much as they say they do. Part of that comes from the fact that Ledger's films didn't really do well domestically. He still was one of the best young actors around. I'll watch The Dark Knight in his honor.

As I said at the quiz, congrats to Cheeseburger Pussy for making a team name that now has me ready to become a vegetarian again. Yep, I used to be a vegetarian. I think beef jerky was my kryptonite.

We now have a friendly rivalry brewing between the team formerly known as Shredded Bits O' Whedon and The Team Formerly Known as Science. The former dominated all comers last summer but there is a new posse in town. One point separated them tonight but The Team Formerly Known as Science defended their title. Pluggerz followed both and finished a solid third.TTFKAS's win tonight arguably should be a three-peat had we not been giving best team names out. Who will win next week? The latter is losing some key members for a bit but I have no doubt the guys in the gang can hold their own.

By the way, I think 83 points may be tied for the highest score we have had at The Tap Room. If not, it's 85 held by, you guessed it, Shredded Bits O' Whedon. Either way, well done to both teams! I think you rock.
