Josh and James really missed out last night, as 14 teams packed it into Coopersmiths. Josh’s nuptials even inspired the team Marcus is crashing a Mexican Wedding who showed that mocking absent quizmasters works wonders for your score.

And on top of wedding excitement, and having 2 extra ladies in the room, I had to go and totally screw things up by not properly downloading the second audio round. But no worries, I gifted the crowd the mega, forever to be remembered, incredibly long round with a bajillion possible points to make up for it. Both Team VD and Marcus is crashing a Mexican Wedding totally cashed in, taking a whopping 44 points in round 7.

During this round we also learned that not all lesbians love Ani Difranco.

Sarah Jane’s fuck up, I mean super awesome innovative round 7, ultimately lead to a 1st place tie, which we solved with a tie breaker about the number of Gilligan’s Island episodes. The answer was 98, which had already been established as my high school graduation year. Ten years, and still not knocked up, I’m proud of me!

Josh and Jim had the "night off," so the usual quizzies were behaving like 3rd graders with a substitute teacher (or two) for Josh Z. and Davies. To wit: we just follow the lesson plan the other guys left for us, it’s not like we devised the Stryper or Slayer audio round, which caused a near mutiny and even scored us a few affectionate, satanic quiz threats.

Slayer fans are like bears: They're more afraid of you, than you are of them.

In return, we stuck some gum to the shoes (well, not really) of those pesky kids from Go Fuck Yourself, who pulled out another victory at Coopersmith’s and retained the championship belt. Now we just need someone to hit Scotty V. with a folding chair.

Yeah, they won again, but the guy is wearing a neck belt.

Worthy performances were turned in by Mr. Shits Goes to Washington, who claimed to jump from tenth last week to second this week, and 1/2 Empty. Cleverest name of the week goes to Ike’s uck hock (say it aloud and quickly, perhaps while walking through a supermarket). Sinking back toward the bottom of the pack were the ever stylish-ish Frosted Fashion Faux Pas and East Coats Bias, who were a little preoccupied with the Red Sox-Yankees game and studying for the GMATs (Let’s hope you do better on the test than the Sox in the 9th, huh?).

Teams at Coops quiz are merging faster than mainstream media. It's honestly hard to keep track. This week, Low I.Q. teamed up with first-time winners Nipple Clamps to form Low Nipples. (Is that some sorta belly buttom deformity?) And Ben, as always the slut, joined Team V.D., who had a dissapointing round of quizing this week. Then there's the triumphant return of Charlie Bravo, now calling themselves Charlie Bender. Not sure if the name change is the result of a merge, but they took it. The reign of the Justice League may have ended. No, they weren't beat, but Louis Fowler says that just as Brad Pitt will not marry until all those who wish to marry can marry, he is not playing the quiz until all can win, or as he put it, until Cat-a-Tac wins. This may or may not free up Brother J.B. as a free agent, but Ben joined a new team of quiz regulars calling themselves Rocky Mountain Bullhorn, named after the long gone altweekly newspaper. And they won!

One would think all the geeks would be preoccupied with the season premiere of "The Simpsons" and not turn out for quizzing. But lo! One would be wrong. Must've been TiVos working overtime.

Is it me or is the Justice League winning every week just getting, well, ordinary. Is it even worth mentioning? This week they called themselves Justice League: Cum on Feel the Quiz. And next week they will be absent. Why? According to Louis,"We do have social lives." Life is full of surprises.

Speaking of surprises, Cat-a-Tac is rapidly becoming a competitive team. And all the other teams jockeyed for the top slots throughout the night. Without the Justice League, we've got a real contest. Returning champions Nipple Clamps fell into a sophomore slump, and Prioprism and CoTex -- two great teams -- barely kept their heads above water. Look to Cat-a-Tac, peoples.

As some geeks may recall, after much blog taunting weeks back only one member of the Slump Busters showed up last week to challenge the Justice League. This week they showed up unannounced. Now, as quizmaster, I'm supposed to support the integrity of the quiz, but I suspect all's not right in Quizland. Look at that score! 95?!

Justice League 2.0, however, may have a point. They suggest that the Slump Busters may have quized some of the rounds we presented tonight previously in Denver, citing the Slump Busters have never scored so high.

I'm sure the blogosphere will see a shitstorm this week. We can only sit by and wait for the quizmaster in chief's final diagnosis on this contentious dispute.

Nothing more we can say here folks...
Oh my. Last night was an evening of talismans and no shows. The Middle Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles arrived with their good luck turtle in tow... Team V.D. brought their giant V and Justice League 2.0: "The Slump Buster Busters" came not only with a Snoop Dogg action figure and a sign printed especially for this grudge match but also a Gold Belt that one Brother J.B. was ready to part with if his team lost.

Alas, his team did not lose. Not even close.

After a week of unprecedented shit talking that commenced after Slump Buster Russ Esposito announced on this website that his team was heading north to challenge the Justice League, tensions were high. The quiz was no longer about one team winning, it was about civic pride: Denver vs. Fort Collins. Big city versus small city. Drinking nerds versus Nerd Nerds.

But alas, The Slump Busters failed to show. What's worse is that they left one man, Evil Rob, on the battlefield. For the second time! He was the only Slump Buster in uniform at the quiz. Once again, no one gave him the memo. No explanation was offered from Slump Buster communications commisar, Russ Esposito, as to why the team failed to show except for a flimsy excuse about a lost phone. Hmmmm... sounds pretty sketchy.

As for Evil Rob, he says he's weighing whether or not to be annexed by Touched By An Uncle or even start his own team: Justice League South. He offered a GWD operative these words:

Their's not to reason why,
Their's but to do and die.

Whatever that means... Nevertheless, we must mention that without his mighty crew Evil Rob and his provisional Slump Busters playing under the name "Dude, Where's My Phone?" managed to take second place. Oh, what would've happened if the entire roster was in place? Sadly, we may never know. At least not until Quiz Bowl.

"Thanks guys!" Will Evil Rob defect to The Justice League South? Stay tuned...

It was still a great quiz though, even if it was once again dominated by The Justice League. However, it should also be said that CoTex and The MAMN Turtles put in impressive showings, they just got skunked on a few rounds.

Well, the Justice League is back. And by that I mean they won. Wasn't it fun when there was jockeying for first? Wasn't it fun when they slinked out after their loss? Let's do it again. Personally, I think Uno -- a team of one -- stands a chance of beating them solo, but if Mr. Uno teams up with, say, Team-A-Team, they could trounce Justice League 2.0: See You In Hell, as they're now calling themselves.

I would like to point out that Justice League 8.9 or whatever it is, has previously won by a much larger point spread so maybe...maybe they ain't the team they once were?

Hardcore! We love this! Team V.D. with their V for (Quiz) Victory talisman. I suppose if you're not going to suit your team up with uniforms, having a good luck charm like this is the next best thing.

Ever the show-offs, the Justice League of Trivmerica's guest-written quiz last night was hard, hard, hard and full of pop. Some teams sunk their collective teeth right in, while others struggled with categories like music mash-ups. Newcomers Middle-Aged Ninja Turtles (presumably not mutants) took the lead early by jokering the mash-up audio round and only missing one of sixteen possible points.

See folks, well-used jokers make all the difference. Fucking Morons clinched third after jokering the eighth round, and Roadkill used a joker in the seventh round, when they scored three points, rather than one of their ten-point rounds. It's called strategiary.

Not sure if this happens at other Geeks Who Drink quizes, but the 12-and-under contingent is showing up in force, helping with Charlotte's Web questions and such. What a family affair we're becoming! It's like a family outing to an R movie. Great to see parents thickening the callouses of the next generation. Until next week...
